i found the answer, the reason this shows as centered is because it is a communications site, modern sharepoint sites do not support the centered view

Thanks @Gulzar Ismail! Yes, that's correct. Communication sites are fullwidth, so the sections are centred.

is there a way to change the color choice for the background? say I wanted navy blue or something like that?

Hi L Tikalsky! Yes, if you have the right permissions you're able to change the colour scheme of your modern SharePoint intranet site by going to the cogwheel in the top left corner of your site, then click "change the look" then "theme". (If you don't see this option, you don't have access to do this and will need to check in with the site owner.) Changing the colour scheme will, in turn, change the available background colours for each section on each page/news post of the site. I'll try get a video up for you when I get a chance next. :)

When I build a new page, how can I put in FILES (I know how to put a weblink), but how do I deposit a Power point, or a Word file. And then send a link to my students where this file is ? I am building a sharepoint where I will have lots of training material i.e like a Library.

Great question! 😁 I’ll make a video for you, but that’ll take a few days… In the meantime, assuming you have a team site, look in the cog wheel > site contents and see if you can find the site’s document library there. You can add documents to that library, then on the site pages you can use web parts like “file viewer”, “highlighted content” and “document library” to include those files on your pages.
