Very helpful, MiC. Answered my question: Can multiple Content Types be added to a single List/Library? Great presentation style. Thanks and keep those videos rolling.😊

Struggling and hope you can help because this video wasssss amazing ! 😊What you would you recommend is the best site content type/site columns for employee management? for example I am in HR so most everything I do will involve some info from the master list.. “master list” Employees Position full name Address Contact info employee number But also need other lists that need to include the name/position/employee number and additional columns not in the “master list” How can I use this site content type and columns so we are not having to write in the same info on each list and allow the employee to be selected and then have that info pull in ? For example the other lists would be Leave requests Company Position Evaluations Employment history: start date, bonus, anticipated end date, promotion date? I am in HR so most everything I do will involve some info from the master list.

Thanks for watching! My initial thought is...don't you have all this info in your user profiles already? Like job title and contact info etc. Do you have a full fledged IT dept? If so you may want to leverage some of the info already captured within user profiles. Otherwise just jot down the things you want to track and decide what type of column you'd like to use for each piece of Metadata. Good luck!

What's terrible is that you still have to turn on content type management in advanced settings, BUT when you do, there's a TOTALLY misleading message at the top of the screen that tells you that you don't need to do anything in advanced settings, but instead go back out to the list and click 'add column' to add a content type. If you haven't enabled content type management in advanced settings, then you won't see content types under the 'add column' menu. Not a hurdle for someone with SharePoint experience who knows better, but it's unacceptable that the message in advanced settings DOES NOT remind you that you still need to enable content type management for your list, and in fact directs you away from the advanced settings page.

Whoa! Excellent point! I just ran a test and you're absolutely right about needing to "Allow Mgt of Content Types" 1st....as an added bonus - I just discovered what looks to be an update in the add column experience! Look out for post/video coming soon!!!

@@SharePointIn60Seconds Yeah it's just that darn misleading message that drives me nuts because I've worked with SharePoint for a long time and knew I needed to turn on mgmt of content types despite the message. I feel for a newbie trying to understand all this content type stuff. Your vid is great nonetheless. I appreciate the content!
