You are coming to your campsite and it is already occupied with ... lions! How can you share your campsite with them?

Not many people would have had that experience, scary but a privilege as well.

Kgalagadi is well known for lion attacks on humans (ok human attacks on lions uusally are more common), so it is not like those lions look total harmless to me.. To me they look curious, but as normal lions, they are also looking for opportunities, like water, food remains and potential prey (yes, humans included). They seem well fed, It looks all cool and romantic until a disaster happens. Maybe on the next day they are hungry. Btw, camping on a tent with lions around, may be not good for someone who actually needs to rest or actually really cares about his/her own safety. Also like in many other cases, when people decide to camp next to dangerous large wild animals on their own territory, they should remember that at a certain time, someone may need to go out. Don´t be so bad with yourself and take something with you, so you can satisfy your needs inside your tent. Lions often don´t associate tents with humans or prey, that´s why they usually don´t attack people inside tents, but disasters have happened before. Anyway while it may be not my type of thing, I respect other people preferences and decisions.

Man eating lions are known to break into proper houses to eat people, in rural Tanzania. These are not really strong houses built of brick and strong roofing tiles, but mud walls with thatched roofs.

They behave like they’re at home because they are at home. That is their land not humans land, then humans are shocked that the lions attack if provoked.

It is beautiful, but of course that in real life it doesn´t look like that (or better said our eyes woudn´t be able to pick such details), because it´s a long exposure, with lots of zoom in and so on. With a nice camera, you can make a normal sky, looks super starry like this one. Still I bet, that nights there should be dark, beautiful and with plenty of stars visible. But nothing close to what you see on this video.

@@geogm.840 At Mauna Kea one Christmas we got close to seeing this many stars. But space junk was also visible. They have civilian telescopes at 13K feet vs the pro ones a thousand feet above. It's as close as I'll come to seeing the curve of our world.

@ElenaHanak2 жыл бұрын
thank you, I don't think the lions have some names ... never heard about it. there were some wild lions who had names like Cecil, The Lion. but those don't have, I think.
