This game takes no advantage of the chains. It’s just multiplayer only up.

The chains look incredibly effective at keeping the players close, forcing them to move and jump in sync. Seems to me like that's their intended purpose

It makes use of the chain though? It keeps the players clustered and forces timing. It acts both as a saving grace (pulling up a person that missed) and a punishment (one guy gets shoved, everyone gets shoved).
