As an Ecuadorian myself growing up on the coast of Ecuador, vacationing at the beach, one of the first things you learn is to pass/cross the rolling waves. I remember as a child, maybe 6 or 7, my dad would hold my hand and say, "When you see a wave, you can either go under or turn your back to the waves so that it crashes on your back (up until this point my Dad would carry us through to the calm water pass the waves) and just keep doing that until you get to the calm water. As we got older, we would go on boat rides, and we would all jump in the water, no fear! I think this is how most of learned. As I write this, I find myself smiling at these beautiful memories I have. My country is going through some difficult things right now, but that doesn't take away from its beauty and its wonderful people. Thank you, my love, for shooting your film here.

I love seeing others take on filmmaking processes. I would 100% like to see the rest of your process in finishing the film. It seems most of my work is "fixing it in post" for other people, so all of this is right in my wheel house. Seeing what others do to fix issues would be entertaining and insightful to watch.

When I started working on films as an animator and later VFX Supervisor I hated the term "fix it in post" haha. Of course as I started to make my own films that all changed. Many production issues can be fixed in post like is the case with my current film.

Awesome job, We shot a short shark film last year and I picked the shallowest/clearest water I could and it was still difficult, I could only imagine how difficult it would be out on a boat haha. Really excited to see how the rest of it turns out as we had to do a lot of clean up in post also. Best of luck ❤

Hi Tom, as a filmmaker myself I really enjoy watching you, the crew and actors work through the process of making this film. I would love to see how you managed the post production process as well! I have seen a lot of other projects and reviews on your channel. Thanks for what you do! Looking forward to seeing the final film.

Completely underestimating the intensity of things in the real world, like shooting in the ocean or hiking out 2 hours to the middle of nowhere by foot and then shooting an action scene and then having to hike back with all gear, food and water. 😅 You've inspired me for over a decade now, great to see you're still working on these films with so much passion.

Thanks. It did feel insanely tiring at times but somehow with the positive cast and crew it was still fun to do. Even the last day when we filmed on the water. The first two days on land were super easy and relaxed. We had so much extra time in between scenes that we would all go to grab ice cream and on the second day after lunch we all had a siesta for over an hour!

This is really good, Tom. We can't wait to watch the final production. 🙌 I'm curious to know a few things. Who chooses the destinations for your films, you or your brother the producer? And how do either one of you goes about selecting the right destination/location for the story you want to tell? Like what do you take in consideration to know which place will be a great fit for the image that you have in mind? Thank you. - Wilfredo
@TomAntos
@TomAntos 11 ай бұрын
Thank you Wilfredo! The overall destination for this film was decided on by me while I came up with the initial story idea. Since my family is from Ecuador and we have a house in the small town of Playas I came up with a story to show the town and so I could do a film in there with all the fun people I know. Later as we did pre production the specific locations and spots were chosen mainly by me, Danny the cinematographer and my brother Lukasz who was the producer. We traveled together for a few days to find the exact spots. Me and Danny were looking mostly from a creative point of view while my brother more from financial side of things.

Hey Tom I've been following your amazing tutorials and learning stuff since 2013, while I was starting to study Film & Television. Nice to see another work of you being created.!❤ What safety measures did you follow while filming while swimming in the sea?
@TomAntos
@TomAntos 11 ай бұрын
Thanks Shane for your long support! We had a person always on the lookout for any dangers plus we had floatation devices and life jackets on the boats. Unfortunately the actors couldn't wear them because the story dictated so plus I also had to go underwater so often to get a shot that it took too long to put it on and than take it off. In short if someone was drowning the crew always could jump in to help and also they would throw a floatation device tide to a rope. The two times when the crew noticed the actors were tired we had that thrown to them so they could grab it but each time the cinematographer would stop rolling or had put the camera down so there is no footage of it. Also the two boats that were also used as props in the film were older wooden boats on purpose because the story dictated that. But our third production boat was a newer fiberglass boat that could also hold everyone on board in case the other boats failed.

What a wild production! I've never shot on the water, but that's a lot to keep in mind. I definitely don't think I'd want to jump into that type of production anytime soon. I did a pirate film, but entirely on land, last year. I wanted to do more in the water, but it just wasn't feasible. Worked out well, but it seems you handled the insane production in the best way you could have. Excited to see how the final film ends up.

Bwaaaahahahaha. The shark fin got me. That was hilarious. Respect for the ambition. Shocked you didn't use flippers or some kinda floatation??? Crazy. The movie JAWS had a ton of problems. The shark had issues. BUT, that became "less is more" in the imagination.
@TomAntos
@TomAntos 11 ай бұрын
Flippers would have been helpful but I personally couldn't use a floatation device since many times I had to dive under water to get shots and taking that off and putting it back on took too long for the limited time we had.

@@TomAntos you could have a boogie board tethered to you with a leash. Then rest the camera, cast, and yourself on the board between takes. Boogie board is meant for you to wear fins as well. Plus, you could have a dedicated water safety person in the water on a rescue board behind camera. They could equip with some life jackets and what not. I am not a water safety expert but it would be good to have consulted with someone ahead of time. There are a bunch here in Hawaii. Thank you so much for sharing this so we can learn from your experience.

Thank God, no one got hurt. I don't know how you managed to stay afloat and film for four hours in the water on the last day of shooting without fins, a life jacket, boogie board, and/or scuba gear. Plus you seem pretty skinny so you don't have a lot of fat to help you float. You must have slept really good that night.
