On this adventure, we swim with the fishes at Shark's Cove, one of Oahu's best snorkeling locations!
-----
Last week's episode: • OAHU - Nuuanu Pali, He...
-----
We made our way from our hotel, Paradise Bay Resort north of Kaneohe, to snorkel at what we were told was an awesome spot to snorkel on Oahu. About a 45 minute to an hour drive along the north shore, we stopped at the Aji Limo food truck for a quick snack before jumping in the ocean.
While there was a fair amount of people, there was plenty of space to spread out and eventually plenty of fish to see. Be sure to bring rock shoes if you decide to visit because the walk in can be pretty rough!
Absolutely worth a stop, the area of Pupukea is quaint and laid back with a small surf town vibe. Rightfully so as the neighboring beach is home to the Banzai Pipeline, a famous surfing spot and home to some of the biggest waves on the island. Shark's cove is also just north of Waimea bay and valley, another worthwhile stop on your trip to the northwest side of the island!
Be sure to stay tuned for more great content! Coming up next, our experience at the Toa Luau in Waimea Valley! Thanks for watching, be sure to subscribe, we'll see you in the next one!

My wife and I just left Oahu, spent 3 of our 6 days in the North Shore. Maybe just the time of year but it's quite a bit different looking now due to higher tides. Still a must goto spot for some snorkeling and fun. Also our hearts go out to everyone in Maui, God bless and speedy recovery, God speed.

You stayed in the baby tide pools. Nice place to visit, but the real action is to the right where the channel is. It gets deeper and there are two nice walls on either side. Honu love those walls for feeding and it’s nice and deep - more honu action.

Did you see that humuhumunukunukuapua'a at 5:18??? We didn't catch that until editing! Looks like plenty of convict tang, pacific chub, and raccoon butterflyfish. Can you identify any other fish??

Hi! I liked your video! And thank you for identifying the pacific chub. I’ve been to sharks cove a couple of times and it’s my favorite snorkeling spot currently. The angel fish type is the Moorish Idol, I believe. There is a butterfly fish that looks similar but I truly think those are the Idol. I also saw a couple of Black Sea cucumbers when I was there a few days ago. I would love some help identifying a couple more of the fish in your video as I have seen them also. Such as at 6:10. Oh and I also ended up with a large boo boo on my shin. Thank you!!

Convict tang is called Manini in Hawai’i. It’s also the word locals use to describe something small. Like “those problems are manini compared to…”

Absolutely worth the trip! Hanauma bay is very popular and most likely very worth it, but they're starting to charge tourists $25 or so to enter! Very glad we went to Shark's Cove instead. Tourism in Oahu was pretty wild when we went last month, can only imagine how it'll be when testing isn't required to enter Hawaii! Would be great to see you guys make some videos there!

@@VeronicaRyanVideos We are here now and Hanauma Bay is on our list as well! It is wild here, and I think that you are right about it picking up soon with the restrictions lifting!

Hi! We are heading to Sharks Cove next week. Are fins and buoyancy vests overkill for the dove?!

Hello! Great question! In our experience, the whole tide pool area was pretty shallow. We definitely recommend some water socks/shoes though as it can be pretty rocky. Certainly all depends on your experience in the ocean, but sharks cove was pretty calm and shallow and easily managed with just a snorkel mask and some water socks/shoes. The majority of the cove you can stand up in/touch the bottom. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

So sorry for the late reply! Hopefully not to late - there's a business just across the street - The North Shore Surf Shop, they can get you sorted with some rental gear :)

Hey bro, next time you're on the archipelago make sure you buy local. I watched your video and it seems you want to bet on that level. Aloha guys.

100%! We're always conscious to buy local on our travels when we can, especially when it comes to food. Nobody does it better than the locals, and that was definitely true out on Oahu. Stayed at an awesome local resort in Kaneohe most of the time too; way better than any corporate hotels. Good looking out, thanks for watching!

You'd do just fine! While some parts do get a bit deeper, most of it you can stand up in. Or when you're just laying flat you can use your hands and feet to push along

Be careful when anyone goes here. Look out for your belongings and don’t leave anything valuable. We went two weeks ago and we got our bag/cellphone/clothes/wallet& our rental vehicle stolen. They wait and look for tourists that they can steal from. Be careful!!!!!!!!
