There's two types of opinions on Sharks I generally see. 1. People who have owned Sharks and are aware of how bad they are. 2. People who currently own Sharks and are defensive of their shortcomings (common when you spend money on something). Dyson's owners are usually just people who don't know anything about vacuums and think they are the vacuum equivalent of Apple. Both vacuum brands are just exercises in marketing rather an exercises in actual lasting functionality. They both generally clean well on the first bin (which is like one room lol), then needs a filter wash or starts cleaning like crap.

The latest Sharks with the duo clean heads the brushroll just pops out and you can get replacement brushrolls from Shark for £10 in the UK. For around £200 they are not bad value. You don't have to pay for postage here under the warranty. Not saying I'm a shark fan but they are not as bad as made out to be here 😁

Another happy Shark owner here. First off it does have a cyclone and it works. Your filter cleanings depend on how much fine particles you vacuum up. In my situation a filter cleaning every month or even two works just fine.

@@0013Evan Exactly. I had a pricey $1000+ vacuum that the motor quickly became plugged up with fine dust due to our rural setting along a dirt road. This issue is not a covered warranty issue. Spent $300 in repairs and within months it again was plugged up. Insufficient pre-motor filteration. I have a Shark that has been going strong for five years and it cost me $350. Which is the better deal for most people, lol?

Both are made in China, and CHEAPLY made in China. Chinese made goods on the whole are designed to last a short period of time before they break down, and you have to throw them away and buy new ones. The Chinese are taking us all for mugs, and they can do, as we are now dependent on them for just about everything, because UK businesses made our people redundant and moved all production to China, so they could make more profit, and in this day and age, profit for the big bosses and directors is what matters most. screw the consumer basically.

I bought a Shark handheld vacuum to do my stairs as I didn't want to mess with the Kirby on them. I love the Kirby as everything on it is replaceable. Naturally I checked to see how to change the belt on the Shark. What's this? You can't!!! Nope. Took it back to Wal-Hell and got a refund. Then I thought I got smart and bought a Eureka 71B in no small part because of the stellar Amazon reviews. It did have a replaceable belt. About a year after I bought it the switch broke. The belt was still good though! Now I just use the portable handle on the Kirby to do the stairs. It's a good workout but I like knowing it's doing a great job cleaning and nothing ever breaks on it.

What I find interesting is that shark, and other budget brands sell their vacuums with a lot of high end features for little cost. I can get a shark with an electric handheld brush roller for stairs, and get a bunch of accessories and attachments for less than $200. But comparing this to a real canister vac, or the closer comparison the sebo felix, you're looking at spending triple that amount. Obviously the sebo will last forever and the shark will die in a few years most likely, but for a budget vac with a lot of features, I can see the appeal that these have to a lot of people. And yes I did see your shark vs felix vid and I agree with all your points :) just wish I could buy a sebo for less than $300, but you get what you pay for, if the wife let's me spend that much that is!

I gave this vid a like because your demonstrations & attention to detail are great. One criticism is that I find the title to be a false equivalence; while the Dyson has its flaws/shortcomings, it is still lightyears ahead of the junk made by Shark. Like, for example, it can actually be used conveniently as a canister, and has a million knockoff hose extensions/cleaning heads/etc. available. And re: your comment on people choosing uprights vs. canisters, due to laws of physics (fluid mechanics), uprights offer more powerful suction (the motor is adjacent to cleaning head's point of contact w/ surface); not to mention, IMO the weight of upright vacuums actually make them easier to use in the sense that you don't have to push down to achieve greater suction. I'm a bit OCD and always find my wrist getting sore when trying to the head of a canister vac down into carpet... Anyhow, it seems to me that the only downsides to that Dyson are its leaky HEPA filter, and the price. Re: price, keep in mind that Dyson comes from the UK, and in the UK/EU the price of the two machines is the same (Dyson quite a bit cheaper here). I don't use Dyson uprights or canisters anymore (I do like their cordless V8 for odd jobs tho), so I'm not a huge fanboy. But I just think it's a bit ridic to portend that a Dyson purchase would be equally regrettable.

Thank you for an explanation of canister vs upright, esp on carpet. I’ve used uprights my whole life and just *looking* at a canister made me skeptical when it comes to performance compared to an upright, but I couldn’t explain why mechanically. I just felt that the power head on canister vacuums looked daintier in comparison and felt “disconnected” but of course if I walked into a vacuum store, no one would know what I was talking about and would continue to sing the praises of a canister’s superior suction power. Plus some people have complained they don’t like the canister following them around, tipping over, bumping into things, and being too unwieldy, which I rarely see mentioned on this channel. But thanks, you explained something which should be obvious from a physical point of view. That being said, what vacuum or vacuums would you recommend for combination of stairs, hardwood, and wall to wall carpet? Thank you.

Thanks for the information. Something always told me That cyclone design on the Shark was a flop. Really, Shark? Almost no parts available? What a joke! I had to use a Shark when helping someone move one time, and let me tell you, that thing was a hunk of junk. It barely performed on bare floors even with the roller brush engaged; edge cleaning was a nightmare,having to hold the unit while using the wand; having to reach into the bin to clear debris away from the intake to keep it from losing power was a royal pain; oh, and the motor sounded like it was dying. I wished I brought my Kirby. do yourself a favor and save For a Sebo Felix or Sebo Dart instead of buying a Shark. If you can’t afford that, get yourself a used Kirby and have it tuned up. It’ll serve you well for years to come. I’ve got a Kirby G3 that’s been fixed up and is going strong at 30 years old.

I own this exact model Shark. Even have the same green/emerald color. I agree 10000000000% with what you're saying. I hate how the filter gets dirty after one pass of vacuuming. I will also add that the bristles are extremely stiff on this model and appeared to grinding my old carpet. When I got new high pile carpet, this seemed to just have too much resistance and that's when I got a hoover which doesn't have these issues.

In the UK I can’t fault the service and aftercare from Shark. The brushroll stopped working and they sent a new one out the next day. The bin went cloudy, again, sent out the next day. Then.....the motor burnt out after 2 years and they sent me a prepaid label, arranged collection of the machine and they sent me out a BRAND NEW Shark tools and all 👌 as far as warranty is concerned, they’re as good as Dyson I have found, absolutely faultless. I don’t own the Shark any more, but it lives round the corner with 3 years left of its warranty. I agree with a lot of other statements and observations of yours though 😉 that’s why I got rid lol

Theres a reason that businesses use Numatic Cylinder vacuums. 20 year old henry no loss of suction. Can still lift itself, pet brush only needs cigarette lighter to untangle hair. 5 year guarantee, can be run bagless, huge capacity. As a service engineer i used to repair old hoover and even recondition them, electrolux i used to get paid to replace belts and melted cowels or write them off, bissell only ever sold agitator brushes, numatic I never ever had to repair apart from carbon brush change on a commercial variant, kirby were just overpriced over powered crap that blew fuses and damaged carpet fibres. Numatic used to test motors by running them blocked for 20 minutes.. No distortion or overheating.. The design isn't for everyone but they work and easy to store

Finally a Shark video! Just some of my opinions about my NV500 and NV340 models: - cyclone system is bad (proven in my video) - filters need washing twice a month when used regularly - they deepclean a lot better than the Dyson DC40 (proven in several of my videos) - carpet cleaning performance overall is good - better airflow than in the Dyson DC40 - tiny screamer motors with extremely high rpm - brushroll motor is very noisy - useless in the canister caddy - top heavy (tips over when using the hose) - feels quite cheaply made After I got the Sebo Felix I haven't used Sharks almost at all...

The brush roll is a PITA if you have pets. Saving up for a Sebo/Henry/Miele/something better. I won't ever buy another Shark. Feel overwhelmed with the options. The Sebo's premium hard floor tool looks really good. I have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Pit Bull mix, two kids and very little carpet (pulling it up soon), mostly hard floor and rugs. They are known to get paid off. Plus more to a vacuum then performance. The main issue with Shark vacuums is lack of serviceable parts. The brush roller, which will wear out after a few month to a year. Then the no rubber bumper on head, as most higher quality vacuums have. So plastics on front bumper crack and wear out over time from getting bumped. Then the plastic small wheels which wear out and no replacements. This is just touching the surface. If they made replacement parts, then won’t be such a big deal. Instead Shark rather just replace the whole vacuum under warranty and then you have to pay to ship it both ways. No surprise as Shark is produced by the same company that makes Ninja blenders. Which are total garbage as well, all based on market hype as well. Where a Vitamix actually is made to last and does a much better job.

@mhtube01
@mhtube01 5 жыл бұрын
@@kimberlybrookes5844 Bags are expensive? You can buy a 10 pack of bags for less than $20 for many machines. You call that expensive? Not to mention, for how many times you'd empty a bagless vacuum, you could put a bagged vacuum away. A 10 pack of bags will last most people at least 2 years vacuuming a decent sized house regularly. If you own a bagged vacuum that takes filters too, they come included in the pack of bags and you replace it when you start a fresh new pack of bags. Sounds like a bargain to me. Like he said, why do you think every commercial setting uses a bagged vacuum? Because it's a known fact that they are superior. If you want to keep spending hundreds of dollars on new, throw away bagless vacs every few years and then thousands on new carpet because they don't last long, be my guest.

@@kimberlybrookes5844 Upset? More like stumped. I've just heard the "bags are expensive" excuse several times and think it's so stupid. People will spend $600 on a Dyson because of the name when they can get a better used machine for less than half the price, bags and belts included. All it takes is a little bit of research. Or if you want a new vacuum, you can buy one that's priced about the same, less, or maybe a little more but you'll spend far less on service over time and it will perform better. That's all I'm saying. But people buy into hype and don't think.

why on earth would you buy such utter garbage? poorly designed, poor execution, poor build quality, and no replacement parts. the brush roll design is awful. actually would you buy either one. i think the shark is around $300 and the dyson is $500 or so. IF you insist on new you can buy a riccar/simplicity for about the same money. they perform well, are built well can you even get parts for it 10 years after you bought it. if you are budget minded right now there is a kirby heritage II on craigslist for $20...... that's right $20. so you take it home put a new fan into it, new brush roll, new motor brushes, new bag, and a new belt say $40-$50 total maintenance. now you have a decent vacuum that will last a lifetime for $60-70. even if you have it rebuilt at a vac shop you still are far better off. there is also a heritage I for $45, a Gsix for $50, and a much newer sentria for $130 if people stopped buying this trash it would cease to exist and we would all be better off without it. pure garbage.

@@PerformanceReviews i also have a riccar vibrance while its not a bad machine and lasted us 10 years it certainly has had more problems then the kirby and cost more. its heads and tails above cheap throw away crap. i wont argue that a kirby is a large, heavy, cumbersome, and somewhat inconvenient machine, but they are well built and do a pretty good job cleaning. im sure there are modern machines that are better cleaners, but not mass market junk. you cant say that a kirby is a bad cleaner. do NOT buy any vacuum at a discount china junk place...... target, walmart or similar. i still have my childhood kirby heritage bought when i was in high school. i am 37 years old now. my parents bought it USED back then. it still works despite decades of hard, hard use. survived many dogs and cats. my mom gave it to me because she didnt want to push it. buying used, a kirby makes perfect sense if you are willing to put up with its quirks, a good machine with quirks. buying one new makes absolutely no sense, an absolute rip-off at the price. they need modernize their product and drop the door to door saleman gimmick. they need to be sold at vacuum cleaner centers and at the $1,000-$1,200 price point.

@@PerformanceReviews i bought a very lightly use kirby tradition for $40 and a Gsix for $50. both were in good working order. many years later all i put into the tradition, a belt and brush roll. im sure the miele is a nice machine, but its $600 and we have $500 per month in child care and $740 in mortgage with all of the other bills. life sucks but a paid for vacuum of decent build quality does make sense. at least its not cheap piece of crap dyson or shark. $40 and $50 kirby in working order is a steal. $600 is still allot of money. if you were going to buy new do you recommend sebo or miele more or equally?
