So thrilled to see someone FINALLY speak about the incomprehensibility of the Dyson! One word; Marketing... I used to clean houses & would feel like crying whenever I saw it waiting for me because I knew three things were possibly going to happen; 1. The people didn't have an eye for what a dirty vs clean house really is and that it would therefore be a heavier workload that they probably wouldn't even notice afterward. 2. That the heavy, bulky, usually not working fully, Dyson would do the usual where it sucked up the carpet, but refused to pick up tiny little grains of dirt because of the confounding lip they have on the head. That would mean bending down every few feet to pick up the grains that just kept getting pushed forward on the floor. 3. That every few minutes I'd be stopping to clean the filter & empty the filthy, dusty container. On top of all of this you are fantastic for being HONEST about all of the products. I have to purchase a vacuum for a client's house that I'm decorating & I wanted to get a Kenmore or Panasonic because I have a baseline that beats anything I've every used, but I hear they're now not being made in Japan:(( So happy to have found your channel!

Every time I talk to someone about vacuums, they always think their Shart is the best vacuum on the market. Yet, if you're going to see a vacuum cleaner on the curb for bulk trash day, it will be a Shart 9 times out of 10.

@Chris Christian Agreed. It's a shame people don't take care of anything anymore. That's beginning to be reflected in our market with highly disposable vacuum being a social norm now. Same thing with cars, I see people replace their car every 2 years all the time, and they never maintain any of them. They change it out the minute they have to replace a consumable part like shocks and pads.

I found this list to be fair based on my observations with this channel and other sources. I was somewhat expecting Rainbow to be knocked down much lower for their apparent reputation for being a multi-level marketing firm, although I am not so sure how true this is (either way, better alternatives to Rainbow exist for lower prices). I found it reasonable for Miele to lose some of their status as an industry leader in vacuums for trying to please every segment of the market when those segments do not fully understand that they would be better served with proven, refined models (e.g. cordless vacuums that cost more and do less than a canister/upright). I will admit that I got suckered into the CX1 bagless model when there was a sale. I did not find your channel yet, there was an urgent need for a replacement from I brand that I trusted for ~20 years, and all of the other sources I consulted did not mention the issue I would discover after careful observation. Miele used a hollow gasket around the debris bin which meant that it was not tightly sealed shut and would result in course dust leaking out onto the walls and surrounding interior where the filter cylinder rested. I managed to recoup some of the cost by selling it off to someone else and adopted a SEBO D4, which performs exactly as it should. The firm also upholds design and business principles that I think you share too: 1) Function over form. 2) Access to affordable and durable parts. 3) User serviceability for reduced downtime. There just aren't many firms across numerous industries that impart these in their wares. You are the like the Louis Rossmann of vacuum cleaners and we need more people like you, those who strip the veil of marketing to expose cynical firms and then point us to worthier patrons. Thank you for your service :)

I have only my own experience with vacuums. I have owned a Miele now for years- two of them. They work well; however, what led me to get those was that I purchased an electrolux Oxygen something or other canister- orange and silver and it would shut off about every 10 min. I called for help and they told me that it was a thermostat issue. They refused to fix it under warranty because I bought it on sale and not full price! I could not believe it. I went back to the store (Sears) and they fixed it and it worked for about 2-3 months then did it again. Sears said it was wrong what they were doing but they also did not return vacuums after 60 days I was told. I would never by Electrolux anything.

I recently purchased a Miele C3 Complete Brilliance. I like the machine a lot. The only problem I am having is psychological. I am used to seeing dog hair and dirt in a canister after vacuuming. Gross, yes, but it makes me feel good. Miele is bagged so I don’t see all that dirt. It’s going to be an adjustment bc I do believe that I’ve been brainwashed to expect to see dirt in a clear canister. I do think it belongs completely in the “S” category. I don’t blame them for making a quick “stick” vacuum. Plenty of my friends do not have carpeting and do not need or want a big vacuum. For them, a quality stick vacuum makes more sense. If Miele didn’t make one, they’d be stuck with Dyson, Shark, or a cheap generic. The Miele stick is superior to the other brands out there as well.

I was all set to have a MD with hide-a-hose installed, but once they got a look inside my walls (generous sheetrock and overabundance of fireproof blocking), it was a no-go without ripping out large pieces of my walls (requiring $$$$ in repairs) and drilling through all the sheetrock. You'll be disappointed and probably return it. Anything in sharks lineup has roughly a quarter the power of the Miele in terms of air flow. Filtration is also not nearly as good. You'd really have to put a lot of wear on your Salsa for it to warrant replacement so soon. It's a well-known fact that consumer reports gets bought off.

Okay, so I'm gonna make a complaint comment/question here, even though it's really directed at most of the vacuum comparison videos I've watched today: while comparing these, did you even momentarily give any thought to ease of use? For example, I've seen a bunch of reviewers talking about how everyone should get a SEBO, but they weigh like 18+ pounds and - relative to many other modern vacuums - are huge, bulky, oddly-shaped, etc. That might be fine in certain situations, but if you have a very small house and/or are disabled/old/weak/small, it's gonna be a pain to deal with that every time (if you even physically can), especially if you just need to suck up some stuff real quick. I keep seeing people say stuff like that the only reason people want vacuums like the Miele TriFlex or Dyson V12 is "because everyone is becoming so lazy nowadays", but if you live in tight quarters, are on a tight schedule, or have physical limitations, then vacuums like those are a blessing (if you can afford them), despite their shortcomings. Now, I do think they need to put WAY more effort into making them more durable, user-repairable, and long-lasting overall, but just discarding them as useless trash is really, really small-minded.
@PerformanceReviews
@PerformanceReviews Жыл бұрын
Generally if you have a physical disability you want to look at a canister vacuum . This way you're not having to hold the motor and you're only dealing with one to two pounds in your hand. Stick vacuums have a place for quick pickups but they really don't even have half the power of most plug-in vacuums. Especially for talking about maneuverability stick vacuums really don't maneuver. Of course recommend you go into your local vacuum store and take a test drive no matter what you buy. Hope that's a little bit more insight for you. If you look at vacuum specific reviews I do you'll see see that I always discuss maneuverability in detail always.

I miss my Oreck. At the time I think they only made one model. I gave it away too fast when I got their 2-speed model with a headlight. The one-speed was sucking too hard on my runner-rugs and pulling them up instead of gliding over them. The 2-speed worked better, but only had $16 cloth bags! Now I see paper $6 bags are available, so I'm going to replace my heavy, clunky, used, bagless Eureka with an Oreck. I may get a package with their portable suck-only machine for my car, etc. Gonna look for a review of it first, of course.

And either country can manufacture high quality if they are paid to do it. What's good about Dyson stick vacs? For one, they aren't the size of a riding lawn mower. Sure, they aren't necessarily good for a house with wall-to-wall carpet in every room, but they have many use cases.

1. What's with your casual dismissiveness towards China and intense focus on American manufacturing and bringing jobs to the US? I'm here for commentary on vacuums, not political opinions or economic commentary. 2. @ 8:06 "I'm bumping them down a notch because they're making bagless vacuums.... their continuing trying to please the masses." If the consumer wants something then of course the market should try to meet that desire in the most efficacious way possible, regardless of your personal opinions on the matter. Bagless vacuums are unparalleled in satisfaction post-vacuuming - you can look at the canister and see a physical measure of how much you just improved your living environment. You talk about lack of innovation in other brands yet don't address any of the improvements and innovations in bagless vacuums over the years.
@PerformanceReviews

Well I'm American 🇺🇲so that should answer your first question. Also quality is important. Not having your products made by unskilled workers or enemies of West should be important to you. 2. There's no reason for bagless Vacuums in 2020 they offer no benefits. They do not improve your environment when most spew the dust right back out. They cost more to maintain as well. 3. This is my opinion and findings of years in the industry.

Very helpful video, I appreciate the time you spent to educate the reasons behind your choices. I am now getting into the vacuum world as I’ve started a new job at my local sweeper shop. I was very surprised to see Riccar all the way at C. Other than some models not having attachments, they are light weight & have great suction. This isn’t me disagreeing with you of course, just wondering what a vacuum expert like yourself would think about my opinion. Thanks !

The reason Riccar is at a C is they don't last very long and they tend to be high maintenance. For the same price you pay for a Riccar you can buy a much better vacuum so the value is not there. I have a $1700 Miele C3 Brillant Powerline Complete canister vacuum, but it always stays in the closet and my Dyson Outsize Plus gets used every day. Convenience wins out over perceived superiority any day. That is why people buy Dyson's and they do literally suck very well and are always ready to go. Is the Miele quieter? Yes Is the Miele dust free? Yes. Does it work very well? Yes. Is it convenient? No way, first you have to drag it out of the closet, plug it in, make sure you don't need a new bag, wrangle with the cord while cleaning, and buy expensive bags and filters. My house gets vacuumed more often and quicker if something is seen on the floor, since I got the Dyson because you can just grab the Dyson and go. Since I have all tile or wood floors I mostly use the fluffy bar and it easily get the little rocks or hard things the roller will often eject.

Definitely a windmill brain if they buy dyson/shark @full price; however, if those two brands are 70%-off , which they sometimes are, then they might be worth buying, don’t you think? Sebo, lindhaus and miele uprights obviously are the best but I’ve never seen any of those go on sale, let alone clearance, which shark/dyson sometimes do. So it’d be interesting to see this list revised, taking into consideration the discounted prices.

You're right about being decent for the price if heavily discounted. I picked up a Dyson DC44 animal for $150 refurbished, appeared to be new, about ten years ago, still works. The downside of Dyson, is the planned obsolescence; every series seems to have accessories and batteries which though SHOULD work (batteries same setup/voltage) are intentionally made to NOT fit the next generation of vacuum. Basically, a rip off.
