I'm kinda with Faysal tbh, look at Suarez's body of work. 2nd most assists of all time behind only Messi, shows how good he is creatively and linking up play. I've never seen a striker with that much talent work as hard off the ball as him either, which imo is an underrated attribute. Then talk about his goals, won the european golden boot 2 times in the Messi and Ronaldo era. 351 league goals in 538 league games, which is a great ratio, R9 had 280 in 384, which is a slightly better ratio but add the assists I think Suarez wins on the stats. However, if you talk about best league goalscoring season Suarez scored 40 in 35 games in 15/16, which is unreal. R9's best is 34 in 37 in 96/97 for Barca, which is incredible numbers but scoring over a goal a game is insane, so best season I think you have to give it to Suarez. Now trophies, of course the World Cups for R9 are huge, I get that, but no CL is a big one against R9, Suarez won the treble, has an international trophy, albeit not as good a competition, of course. However, it isn't Suarez's fault he's not Brazilian. Though that doesn't take away from how insane R9's international career was. You mention Ballon d'or for R9 which is fair, but I believe if you take Messi and Ronaldo away Suarez wins at least 1. Main reason he didn't in 2014 was cuz he bit Chiellini so bad PR. So yeah, it's really close, I think if you go peak you go R9, but if you go whole career you take Suarez, just my opinion.

In my eyes referring too stats u have to give r9 the nod. Spent most of the time playing in Europe in a harder era to score goals due rougher defending and reds basically being very lenient. World cup wise, R9 was the main man of that team. I'm not sure if they win 2 world cups without him maybe 1 but he paved the way. R9 peak is to dominat to be disregarded, the types of goals he was scoring look like fifa. faysal is right about suarez. even tho this wasn’t really brought up, many peoples argument against suarez is his ucl career. the only time he played for a european giant when they were on top was at barca. ajax weren’t great and suarez only played ucl with them for 1 season. in that season, suarez had 4 g/a in 5 games. if counting qualifiers and the one ucl season he had at ajax, he had 9 g/a in 11 games. liverpool weren’t even in ucl when he played for them. as soon as he got to barca, he hit the ground running in the ucl, but after 2016/17, his prime was fading and he started his descent, but he was still great at barca. at barca, he had 47 g/a in 55 games in the ucl. that’s a g/a every 85 minutes(i did the math based off of minutes played, rather than games played). with atletico, his ucl record was awful, even in his first season at atletico, but after that first season at atletico, he was already finished and ready to go to south america. i have to mention atletico are terrorists who park the bus, especially in ucl, so that didn’t help suarez. all in all, it’s all about timing, and in this case, you can’t put his ucl record against him

Suarez vs R9 was definitely close. R9 still just about edges it for me, and I love Suarez. Henry vs Benzema should be easy, Henry was dazzling, gliding past players and finishing in his prime. Benzema is recently started hitting Henry levels, he’s a great link up player and just last season alone made him more clutch than Henry. However, France aren’t winning the world cup, Benzema, Mbappe, Griezmann just dont work, Kante’s been injured and in decline, Pogba just fell off, the defense is shaky. Benzema really missed out in 2018, they’d still have won with him, a no-ego mbappe, prime grizzi, kante, pogba, umtiti and varane. Just an extremely solid core…

He didn't play a single game in the 94 World Cup, so it shouldn't count towards his skill. Suarez played well in the World Cup as well in 2010, but did it for Uruguay. You can't blame him for not being Brazillian. Suarez has a better goal scoring record, way better playmaker/link up player and has a goal contribution every 85 minutes in the UCL. Not to mention the fact he was a vital part of the best attacking trio ever, winning the treble with them. Suarez is better than R9. It's exactly that. Van Basten, Romario, Puskas etc would all be above many of the players in this list but this list is only about players from the 2000s onwards. It makes no sense for them to talk about all time because they never saw any of those players play. How can someone with chest argue Van Basten was better than Ronaldo or Puskas was better than Henry when they didn't watch them play. It's why comparing between generations makes no sense unless you're old enough to have seen both.

I understand why people rate R9 so highly, but I also completely relate to Fayzal's argument. Generally speaking I don't give enough appreciation to players while they're playing, but Suarez really was one on the most stunningly talented strikers I've ever watched and I realised it at the time. His finesse always seemed so out of place when matched with his physique, with his strength and speed. And on top of that he could score any type of goal, you name it, he has it in his repertoire and there will be a highlight! I watched it live!! Perhaps I haven't put the time in to watch enough R9, but Suarez has it all!

From a person who has watched R9, it isn't a debate between him and Suarez. People forget that R9 didn't even get to hit his peak, he was barely 23 years old when he tore his ACL and didn't play for nearly 3 straight seasons until his return in the 2002 WC, where he had the greatest individual campaign since Maradona in 86. After that, he went to Real Madrid, clearly nowhere near 100% and out of shape, and still scored 30 goals in 44 games and 31 goals with 13 assists in 48 games in back to back seasons with Madrid, AFTER his busted knees. Even when he was out of shape he would glide past defenders like it was nothing, the most complete number 9 ever.
