This is one of Leonard Cohen's most outstanding songs. I cannot hear it without tearing up. And to hear his co-writer sing it so sensitively is a privilege. Thank you!

both times I saw Leonard, in 2009 and 2012, it's Sharon that causes me to involuntarily stream tears. I literally have to wipe them away through the whole performance. No live show will ever be able to compare in the history of live performances. Her voice is a tearjerker and Leonard is the best he's ever been. Absolute perfection.

Tears? A nephew's girlfriend, named Alexandra Dodger, was the child of a single mum. She put herself through university and law school. She whad always been an activist from her childhood in support of the disadvantaged. When she passed the bar she was hired by Amnesty International. Just prior to starting her acreer she was run down in the street and killed by a drunk driver. This song was played at her funeral. When I heard this at the Cohen concert I was crying so hard I could hardly stand.

This deserves more upvotes. I regret I can give only one. My heart hurts to read of the fate of Alexandra Dodger. Celebrate her for having lived at all. Do not say the moment was imagined...

I saw Cohen in concert in Toronto. He was marvellous, his band was so tight and professional, and Sharon Robinson held the audience in awe with this beautiful song. What you don't see in this fine video is Leonard himself: kneeling, looking up at Sharon with his trademark fedora held over his heart in reverent appreciation. He is a truly gracious artist.

Very very touching performance... Leonard Cohen, Sharon Robinson, the Webb Sisters, Neil Larsen, Javier Mas, Rafael Gayol, Mitch Watkins, Alexandru Bublitchi, you ALL are simply the best! Thank you for the music, thank you for the concerts and thank you for being with me through my life journey.

If you are a music fan and want to see performances of consummate bliss, see Leonard Cohen on tour. The performers are masters of their instruments, including the vocalists, and Leonard's gravelly golden voice is wonderful. The show has it all: humour, pathos. poetry and above all, magic. Seventh heaven.

Elle Temple I am sorry for your deep loss. Leonard Cohen, with his understanding of humanity is always where I go with pain.

I don't know what to say, I'm so sorry. Perhaps there is some consolation in poetry. I believe Leonard Cohen also experienced the loss of a child.

Incredible, this song means so much to me, the lines, “And you who had the honor of her evening and by that honor had your own restored,” are some of my favorite lyrics of all time.

Probably my favorite collaboration in the history of music. Knowing Cohen’s work in depth makes Robinson’s extensive contributions to Ten New Songs completely clear. His style is so unexpectedly complemented by hers, and it makes Ten New Songs my favorite Leonard Cohen album.

When Leonard came to Ottawa in 2012 he brought Sharon where for the first time I was mesmerized as the world melted away as she crooned out Alexandra Leaving with her golden voice. I bought her album Everybody Knows and the newer one Caffeine, both of which are amazing. I can only imagine how devastated she must be right now, along with the rest of us at Leonard's passing; a torch too soon extinguished.

I also seen Leonard and co. back in the 70's and he is the business now just as he was as he was growing. He's an inspiration to all who want to pursue a genuine life with music and thats not taking into account the books of prose and poetry he has given us, The MAN is a genius and we love him in Dublin.

I saw Leonard and company in San Jose a month ago with a young musician friend, half my age. We were both enthralled by the performance. nearly 3 hours of stunning music. I'm 60 and over the years I've seen most of the greats and the show was at the very pinnacle oof anything I've ever seen. this was a highlight but for me it came when Leonard approached the front of the stage with very little accompaniment and sang "Like a bird, on the wire" All the hair on my arms stood up and I had tears..
