I have just listened to this man sing and for the first time in my 65 years of life I wept whilst listening to a song.i have listened to the best opera singers in the world and did not think there would be such beauty but this guy has the ability to reach your soul.it is nothing less than magic. the vulnerability and his gentle spirit and the raw simplicity when he sings touched me deeply .if i die tomorrow i will die knowing i have heard a very special human being ... much respect and thanks dear shane xx

Anyone that dislikes shane for hi alcoholism should be ashamed. He gave me good music and when I was being abused at age 10 Shane was on radio I read A drink with shane macgowan and I see an authentic human. I am an alcoholic but getting help Shane was a shy guy and eccentric but unlike me he had company and love all around him I didn't but trying to build up my life. Want to encourage young alcoholics to get into treatment ASAP

Back here one day after his passing. This was him at his worst and from here his health did really detirorate but the man is and always will be a lyrical genius, might not have had the best singing voice ever and it had got very weak here but that makes him one of Ireland's greatest ever. Rest easy shane your suffering is over now. One of our country's greatest musicians ❤

An absolutely unique and brilliant talent, Kevin. What personal courage, will, and energy it took to find a permanent place in millions of hearts and evoke just as many deeply positive emotional responses. Truly one definition of genius.Forever the pride of a nation. Thank you, Shane. Thank you, Pogues.
@meisterdiebderechte707511 ай бұрын
I think in his prime and once he found his style and got comfortable with it he was one of the greatest singers ever, at least for those kind of folk ballads and fast folk-"punk" tunes like Sally MacLenanne ... incredible to deliver them in that pace and with that vigor and energy and emotion ... sadly his voice deteriorated fast due to the well-known addiction issues and those endless Pogues tours in the late 80s ... still far and above most other so called artists in my book, and will always love him! Rest in peace you hero!!!

I've been loving you a long time Down all the years, down all the days And I've cried for all your troubles Smiled at your funny little ways We watched our friends grow up together And we saw them as they fell Some of them fell into Heaven Some of them fell into Hell I took shelter from a shower And I stepped into your arms On a rainy night in Soho The wind was whistling all its charms I sang you all my sorrows You told me all your joys Whatever happened to that old song? To all those little girls and boys Sometimes I'd wake up in the morning The ginger lady by my bed Covered in a cloak of silence I'd hear you talking in my head I'm not singing for the future I'm not dreaming of the past I'm not talking of the first times I never think about the last Now the song is nearly over We may never find out what it means Still there's a light I hold before me You're the measure of my dreams The measure of my dreams

For the life of me I’ve never been able to figure out why someone along the way didn’t get Shane McGowan help with his drinking problem. It seems like many big names just looked at him and kind of snickered that here’s this guy with all this lyrical wisdom and he was able to do it while staggeringly drunk. It seems like a long way someone would’ve tried to help him get through this problem instead of now be in a 60 something-year-old man that can barely talk and can’t even walk. Saddens me
@PH52213 жыл бұрын
You can't force an addict to get help. If they don't want to stop, they never will. He obviously never wanted to stop, or was never able to.
@fase1doughnut3 жыл бұрын
I think people have, Sinead O'Connor in particular has made an effort from what I understand. She told the police he had heroin in his house or something to try to get him to stop but he just didn't want to get off everything. He's not still on the hard drugs at the least I suppose.
@fase1doughnut3 жыл бұрын
Just did a bit of research, he has apparently was sober in 2016 which is great news. I'm not sure if it stuck but when he was in hospital for his broken pelvis it was pretty well forced on him and it stuck once he got home
@seanogorman3617 Жыл бұрын
It saddens me too especially as an alcoholic sober seven years now. It’s hard because I know there’s a much better life available, but I don’t think he ever wanted to change, and he definitely didn’t know there was another way. He believed intoxication helped the creative process. It blows my mind how someone can deal with so many hangovers, anxiety, stress, and horrible feelings living that life of hard drinking
