First at Cambridge gig, where we thought 'wow', she can headline stuff now, to Green Man where she owned the huge Mountain Stage. Absolutely right on that score, though others in the John Peel Tent all suffered the same stupid approach to 'security'.. just looked bad in the video, her being so far off... the audience needed to be right next to the stage.. Or, as Bono did in the the 1985 rendition of 'Bad' at 'Live Aid', he got of the stage and went and hugged 2 or 3 women in the audience... what an absolute stunning set that was as well, now... This is probably the best new song I've heard released in the last 3 or 4 years. I'd never heard of her before listening to this either so I'm still discovering lots of her earlier tracks and performances for which I am extremely grateful. Being from Scotland I've grown up listening to and seeing amazingly talented female musicians like Annie Lennox, Sharleen Spiteri, KT Tunstall and Amy Macdonald. Personally the thing that sets artists like them apart is their live performances. I've yet to see Sharon van etten live but I'm confident that when I do she'll be joining my list of elite female artists.
