2:52 - 3:15 That is some of the most powerful singing I have ever heard/seen. So much power and yet, it’s still so fucking emotional and vulnerable. Sharon Van Etten could possibly end up becoming a truly once in a lifetime talent. She is magnificent.

I know what you wanna say I think that you're all the same Constantly being led astray You think you know something you don't Downtown hotspot halfway up the street I used to be free, I used to be seventeen Follow my shadow around your corner I used to be seventeen, now you're just like me Down beneath the ashes and the stone Sure of what I've lived and have known I see you so uncomfortably alone I wish I could show you how much you've grown Downtown hotspot used to be on this street I used to be seventeen, I used to be seventeen Now you're a hotshot hanging on my block Sun coming up, who's my shadow? La-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la I know what you're gonna be I know that you're gonna be You'll crumble it up just to see Afraid that you'll be just like me Downtown hotspot halfway through this life I used to feel free, or was it just a dream? Now you're a hotshot, think you're so carefree But you're just seventeen, so much like me You're just seventeen, you're just seventeen Seventeen

I don't buy here story behind this song for a second. It's supposed to be about an ageing New York, but all i hear is the adult self talking to the child self. The child calling out the adult, the adult making excuses to the child. It breaks my heart and I love it. So powerful and meaningful and beautiful.

When I saw Shaz a couple of months ago at the Opera House in Sydney, she sang the climax of this song right in the face of a guy in the front row who had been rocking hard all night. Lucky guy. Of course.. its the fuc**** BBC, who else does this stuff... Long live music and those who bring it to us... 'Now you're a hotshot Think you're so carefree But you're just seventeen So much like me'

Absolutely right on that score, though others in the John Peel Tent all suffered the same stupid approach to 'security'.. just looked bad in the video, her being so far off... the audience needed to be right next to the stage.. Or, as Bono did in the the 1985 rendition of 'Bad' at 'Live Aid', he got of the stage and went and hugged 2 or 3 women in the audience... what an absolute stunning set that was as well, now... I hasten to add, 34 years ago, see- kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqelmIWJiNGJeKM

^^ this. was lucky enough to see her twice that year, having seen her several times since 2010. First at Cambridge gig, where we thought 'wow', she can headline stuff now, to Green Man where she owned the huge Mountain Stage. Still feel like she has that earlier SVE 'attitude' but now doesn't just 'hide' behind the guitar. And love that she still has that constant of Heather WB onstage.

This is probably the best new song I've heard released in the last 3 or 4 years. I'd never heard of her before listening to this either so I'm still discovering lots of her earlier tracks and performances for which I am extremely grateful. Being from Scotland I've grown up listening to and seeing amazingly talented female musicians like Annie Lennox, Sharleen Spiteri, KT Tunstall and Amy Macdonald. Personally the thing that sets artists like them apart is their live performances. I've yet to see Sharon van etten live but I'm confident that when I do she'll be joining my list of elite female artists.

Kept hearing her on 6music for the last few months. Such a talent! Saw Comeback Kid on the Glastonbury coverage and from that point, i’m hooked 👍

If you're outside of the UK, you'll have to install a VPN to watch it. If anyone is unfamiliar these are the steps: 1. Open Google Chrome (if you don't have it, download it) 2. Google search "Hola" extension for chrome, then download/install 3. Switch Hola to the UK setting and click link www.bbc.co.uk/events/er3v9r/play/ad4hp6/p07df58w

This is a brilliant performance of an absolutely beautiful song. I've just put the studio version in the Spotify playlist I have with my daughters (they're 12 and 15). They will like it - eventually. Thanks BBC Music for posting this.
