I know Sharon Van Etten is not trying to forge a career by making 51-year-old fathers of three adult children cry at their computer, and I'm not saying I'm that guy...ok, I am. I am that guy. Beethoven once said, "To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable." As a kid, I admired technical proficiency, and that's important. But that ain't what music is about. Her passion...that came from her soul...that moved me. She moves me. The world needs more of this.
@Metal-Possum4 жыл бұрын
Beethoven's words are why punk bands are more relevant than ever. They play all the wrong notes, but boy is there some passion in it.

Coming back to this over a year later and it's still one of the most incredible sets I've seen on a show chock full of them. If this had happened on network tv back in the 90-early 00's- like MTV Unplugged- it would be a moment EVERYONE still talks about. It's that good. And I'm a lifetime cynic.

Seventeen means so much to me. After making music for a long time, being burnt here and there, through this song I find the strength to reinvent myself in music. Not to be liked by others, not to feel the pressure to perform a certain way. But to feel the reason for doing all this, to feel and be felt. No charade. No mask. No acting. Just pure feeling and emotions. With grace and self confidence. And joy. And also understanding that in order to be felt as a musician, you gotta give your soul. Otherwise there is no point. But oh how hard this can be. It hurts to put out your soul in a song. To show yourself fragile. To turn the invisible to the outside. But this is the only way. Thank you Sharon for doing exactly this 💙
