I wanted to but never sent this video to someone very important in my life. It came up recommended to me yesterday and memories flooded me. Too late to send it after all this time. Went on with my day. I woke up to an email this morning like a response to a call I never actually made. Sometimes connections run deeper than they appear.

Lyrics: Turn on the charm Call to response now. Sitting on the porch, looking for a way out Touched on me deep That's why I'm still here. Why do we think that we've no plight? Even I've taken my chances Even I've taken my chances On you and I know In the dark, on the way out It's even in old songs. It's the combination that takes emotions. Why don't we go now? No need to think on our own now about it. Even I've taken my chances Even I've taken my chances On you. When you love, all of you They know, all of you, Be alone and take, and you break For whose sake? About to leave, about to leave Even I've taken my chances Even I've taken my chances On you.

How fortunate that one of Brooklyn's finest poets is a popular singer, so that she may reach more people. If you were wondering about poetry, this is it.

100% agreed. Same story for me. Listened to it once when it came out and it didn't grab me. Came back to it a couple of months later and now I can't stop.

The transitions and line breaks make this song for me. How between one chorus we may get a music break, another it might break right into the next lines, and usually depending on the emotion and pace of the lines it could change. And the “Remember?” after “Even I’ve taken my chances on you” was perfect, I rewound it just 5 seconds to hear that break multiple times, it was really well done. I love when the rhythm isn’t repeated and one line can sound like it’s in connection with the first it starts so soon after, or sometimes there’s instrumentals. I don’t like when music repeats the same rhythms, and that’s something SVE did a wonderful job on in this song, really mixing it up.

I love the instrumentation and composition of this song. The intro is unlike anything Sharon Van Etten's done before, yet it feels like a natural progression from Tramp. And Sharon Van Etten's singing and lyrics are as mellifluous and intriguing as ever. (Hopefully early) May can't come soon enough.

She was literally the main part of the OA that had my heart pumping; I was like, "I know that girl from somewhere, then I was like; I do know here!" When she started singing; it made that boring ass story into something for a brief moment. But let me stop playing, I'm going to buy all her music. I got "We Are Fine" because I heard it play on Rectify, but I need to actually get it now.
