Thank you so much for sharing your story. I so often hear folks trying to get into UX asking how to break into the industry or how to learn the tools. Sharon answered this perfectly. Its a slow build up of knowledge and plateauing. You just need to start somewhere. As you learn more, you open up new doors and realize you know nothing again (plateauing). Then you learn more and open up more advanced doors. The trick is to stay curious. I've been designing for 12 years and my self-taught story is extremely similar to Sharon's and I'm still opening those doors. I think a lot of aspiring designers are intimidated by people who have experience because they so rarely see the self-taught history behind that experience person's career. There's nothing to be afraid of, open the door.

definitely try coding, the most you'll ever really know for ui/ux design is html css, and even a little javascript if that. All relatively easy languages! Helps with interviews

Hi, Sharon. I hope you see this comment. I find your story very inspiring. I studied theatre arts in Lagos state university. I currently do a lot of musical theatre performances in Lagos and sometimes travel but I am currently in a place where I need to change my career path. In 2020 during the pandemic, I learned web designing using WordPress and Wix and I've taken on free gigs. I also enjoy playing a lot with Canva. Recently, someone told about UI/UX design and I think it's a path I'd love to narrow into. I have started taking free courses on Alison and Coursera. Just want to say thank you for sharing your story. I hope to get as much info and materials needed to become useful In the tech world.
