I love what you said about "either I did got the internship, or I got more interview experience" part! I'm currently in the process of finding internship and its really important to adopt a positive mindset to get through the waiting periods.
@sharonyeunkim2 жыл бұрын
Yesss mentality is really important. You will get an internship if you keep going!

I just bombed a second-round interview that was structured similarly to yours and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Interactive Media Design and 15 years of experience with 10 of them focused on UX. I feel like the pandemic and working in isolation really hasn't helped my social anxiety at all, so I feel this. It left me with a headache as well (TBH, I cried a bit afterwards, which also led to the headache). I had interviews all week with different companies that went swimmingly, as they were conversational and not scary at all, but sometimes you get hit with a really technical interviewer that picks apart every item in your case study. I've started creating a presentation deck clearly outlining my process on each case study, which I think will really help a lot. I definitely do a lot of research and hard work on every project, but fail to show the whole process in my portfolio.
@sharonyeunkim3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah totally feel that. Sucks to have a raging headache afterwards but we can take it as a sign that we tried our best. I think the point of showing process is for the main purpose to show x recruiter that you thought intentionally about every single design decision, that just so required to reveal itself through such process. Don't be discouraged. Job searching in general is hard. All we can do is keep going and there is then absolutely no way we can go backwards in our own job progress.

This is quality content! Thank you for making these kinds of videos and allowing us to have a peek at your experience first hand! As an aspiring UX designer myself new to the field, this gives me great tips which I can apply to my own portfolio and helps me better prepare for future interviews. Thanks for keeping it real and straight to the point! ❤️

Agreed. I was super nervous too. Just know either way it is a good experience. You either get the offer or you find room to improve and become stronger in your interview skills. Onwards and upward! 🚀

Congrats on getting the intership! (Even though it's been a while ago) I love videos like this because it feels like you're literally on a personal call talking about your experiences which we can all relate to and learn from. Hopefully you are able to post more reflections in the future since they're so interesting.

Also yesss to that line about it being a learning experience; you either get the job/internship or gain interview experience.

Sharon, thank you for showing/talking about post-interview reflection! I feel you because I also went through several interviews these days. I can relate to what you said totally. That intense 30 or 45 mins full of questions - why and how, those are scary BUT you did great and showed the best you can (Smart action on sending them follow-up email!). Congratulations on the internship!

@@sharonyeunkim I rewatched your video again, what do you mean by main flow? I heard of user journey map but never heard of the term main flow. (You talked about it at 6:23).
@sharonyeunkim3 жыл бұрын
@@KalvinNi Hey Kelvin, main flow could also be referred to as "happy path" in a way. At least how I learned UX, when you design an app there is the main say "path" your users take when using your application. Ex: on youtube, the "main flow" for viewers is the process someone goes through to watch a KZbin video = search or look at recommended videos on home screen --> select video --> watch video. This is the main flow for KZbin since the primary objective of this platform is for people to watch videos- so how do they do that? Then referring to the "main flow" anything that is not that main flow could be extended to things like edge cases. They still occur but it's rare. Hope this helps!
