Thanks for the help. This video is still as helpful as ever. I bought a Sharp EL-W516XG for a test. It was a multiple choice test, and after doing the calculations, the calculator spit out something stupid like "9671/12500" instead of the normal "0.77368", which was one of the answer choices. That question was pretty easy to deduce through mental math, which I'm generally pretty good at, but it was still irritating for the other questions where I had to rely solely on long-hand math. I don't know why they don't set the decimal view as the default view.

There's a setting you can change that will give you either decimal, fraction, or both.

The same functionality is available on Sharp EL-W531/W531G/W531H/W531HA/W535. The only difference is that 'Set-up' has a dedicated button. Excellent video.

THANK YOU The fractional answer was great in high school when I was actually doing fractions but for simple math it was so annoying hitting the change button all the time. I even tried skimming the manual and couldn’t find out how to change the default.

Yes, thank you. I don't know why LINE isn't the default mode. When one wants the answer to 1 divided by 1200, I would think that one would not prefer the answer displayed as 1 over 1200 (DUH!) instead of displaying .00083333. This was frustrating me too. Thank you again

Thanks for sharing. I've just change to this calculator from a Casio FX-85GT Plus. This is driving me nuts too. I want decimal answers, but still input via WriteView style. Is that not possible? My Casio distinguishes between input format and result format, which is brilliant. I'm really disappointed if Sharp doesn't allow that too.

So this took me about an hour to figure out... but to use the Writeview for fractions/division for input, simply hit 2nd F and then 'b/c' (on my calculator it's ab/c). Kind of wish the label was more obvious but I guess it kind of is. Hopefully this comment helps someone else down the line

On the EL-W516T this is possible! Go to set up -> 2 [editor] -> 0 [w-view] -> 1 [approx].
