Cassette tape was riding up and down on the pinch roller, resulting in sound dropout. New pinch rollers were installed; the shaft was lightly oiled--oiling might not be a necessity, but I did it anyway. Any oil that gets on the rubber of the pinch roller must be removed.

To move the clip just insert metallic pin in hole and pull slightly to opposite side of clip opening. Be careful to keep it safe with clothing to avoid loosing clip.

There's a high circle on the roller, hence the movement of tape. This affects wow, and even azimuth. Good video!!!

@@OldSchoolElectronics Thanks for the feedback, nice touch! I have a similar, but much smaller issue with my AKAI GX-M10. I've have yet to resolve it - only really found out yesterday, and then later (and by pure chance) saw your video! Cheers! ;o) {New roller needed for GX-M10} My similar experience is at the bottom of my blogger pages. cassettedeckman.blogspot.com

@@OldSchoolElectronics Re: GX-M10. And perhaps of general interest to anyone else? I've just ordered a pinch roller, had to measure it of course, then decided to put it back in *reverse*. Now it works better to my surprise! There was a high circle towards one side, and reversing the roller has cured the problem. LOL! Have also had to re-align the post-head guide and azimuth. All now very stable and accurate.

there are a lot of great videos on KZbin on cassette player repair but this is the best I have found so far, both cos of the explanation and fact that you have edited it into short segments which makes it so much easier to find the bits I need. please do more like this!

worse effect is loss of azimuth, ie high frequencies disappear without a trace, from time to time reappearing to some extent, because tape is slipping from the head. at 1:37 perhaps you could cut the clip, to make it easier to remove, ie so one portion of it (where you made the cut) comes easier, or bend one or more of its nails with screwdriver or rounded long-nose pliers, maybe even tweezers...

Don't they have a special tool out there to remove clips you find in electronic equipment. Great Video production. This is actually the type of DIY electronic video I would like to see more of, and I believe others watching would agree with me. Instead the producer cut out section, and like magic, the machine is back together, and now it working. I know you that producing a video is a lot of work, I know from personal experiences, but than I never have nor to do I intend to make a DIY video and up load onto KZbin. I just wanted to put my thoughts down, and let you know that I appreciate you producing this video.

Thank you sir! Aggravating is when I forget to turn on the camera and record; this happens more often then one might think--probably about once every repair video. Also, my work bench is only about 1 square yard/meter--the camera often gets in the way and my wife is gonna have a fit if I start setting up a floor tripod. My gripe with a lot of electronics repair videos is that often nothing is really explained or shown--as you mentioned. (Although there really good videos out there). As far as those tiny clips go: I've never seen a pliers made for clips that small. Screwdrivers work fine. Concerning the pinch roller; I used that method because I no longer have a vise. I guess I could of fabricated a jig out of wood or even metal, but that was overkill for me. The hammer looks big in relation to the pinch roller, but of course you don't use a sledgehammer. Thanks again for your comments and have a nice day!

no need to answer back on this message. But there and done that. Camara work is hard, if your only using single camera. In my work I take straight picture, and than I shot the location more than, using different. Not enough light, to much light, just right, but the camera move,l but it do get one shot that in focus. Electronic camera are great with flash cards are great. But with moving pictures it the voice over that a okay video a better video. Thank you for work.

I'm having a Technics RS-TR575 that was making the same thing with tapes, the four pinch rollers (it's a double deck AND both Auto reverse ) were full of bumps and cracks , so i replaced them today ! ... Problem Solved !!

I haven't tried that method yet. I normally use a piece of sandpaper glued to a flat chopstick. At an angle and the unit in play. That often works. Your idea is about the same, except that you use a chisel. Of course, really bad rollers need to be replaced.

These exact ones are no longer available. I know that you can also get some from a seller on eBay Germany, but they don't ship to every country. Not cheap either.

very cheap.can get them on ebay at any time.be sure to measure the outer diameter(13 mm is usually the standard) and the height(8 mm) and finally the hole the pin goes through(2-2.5 mm).
