From someone who loved, and did a deep dive on this series, this is a wonderful, even more revealing review. Testament to the brilliant artistry of all involved with it, from the page to the screen. Well done! Cheers.

In a later episode, maybe 6 or 7, the word “Police” on the side of Vickery’s police cruiser very briefly transforms into the word “Bodice” before reverting back to “Police”. Considering that a bodice is a lady’s somewhat old fashioned undergarment, maybe the inclusion of this term is a reference to the antiquated attitudes toward women in Windgap.

this series/novel is going to stick with me for a really really long time. i wish the show explored race more, as southern gothism is heavily imbedded in racial attitudes and discrimination following the civil war (even when we see calhoun day and when adora mistreats her housekeeper). i love how flynn gruesomely showcases the horrors of generational trauma and social reputation. the fishbowl nature of wind gap really made all the characters stand out but in a realistic way, and the entire show was ripe with symbolism (no pun intended) so much so that even though i had my eyes glued to the show for the entire 8 episodes, you managed to teach/uncover more things for me to appreciate. take my like!!!

This was the first video I’ve watched of you. Wow!!! I love how you explain and point out details, that might have missed, but were important. I had to keep going back, because I thought I saw something?? But, your analysis of the Music, Cuttings, and the Characters, really helped see everything that needed to, in order to completely appreciate Sharp Objects. I loved this Series.. Thank you for your review!!! Like the Series, you’re review is unique and smart and so full of great bits & pieces that make us feel excited, like you have let us in on a little secret..

Honestly I’m not sure if I’d make it in time, so that anyone would still care. I’m currently editing another video and it takes me so much to make a new one every time! I don’t want to publish anything I’m not proud of, so I don’t want to rush, if that makes sense? Thanks though! Your comment made me smile!

@@Seriesable yeah I absolutely get you. It's just there are so many theories about Allen and his role in this "family drama" and none fits to mine so I am eager to hear yours. Anyway I totally agree with you - quality over quantity! I look forward to seeing from you soon since the eight season from ahs is about to arrive and then later of course for the third season of the handmaid's tale. Surely my expectations are high ;)))

I'm the 100th comment!! But much more importantly, thank you for putting in the time to make this video essay. It's very enlightening, 100%, and helps me see just how much attention to detail and subtlety was put into this fantastic series. One thing I will note is that in the English subtitles for the video, it says "fate" instead of "faith."

Amazing video. I grew up on the book and watched the show a bunch of times since it came out I thought I wouldn’t miss a single clue in here, but girl, you got me. Am I the only one that feels bad for Alan? Maybe it was Henry Czerny’s portrayal of him. Just couldn’t help but pity the guy.

So, about that first episode. Parts of it were filmed in St. Louis, some of the exterior shots. When she is supposedly on her way to Wind Gap is when she comes upon the sign that reads "Last chance to change your mind". In reality, that sign reads "Last Missouri exit". It's on eastbound highway 40 running through downtown St. Louis. Once Camille passes that exit, she cannot get off the highway before entering Illinois. Then there's a shot of her on 40, with the Arch to her left (north) as she's crossing what would be the Mississippi. So, if the fictional town of Wind Gap is somewhere near the bootheel, why the hell is she going to Illinois? She should have been filmed heading south past Busch Stadium, taking interstate 55 which would take her straight to the bootheel. They did a good job of including Easter eggs for us locals (like a shopping bag from one of the local grocery chains) so this blunder really bugged me. That aside, I loved the series.

Hey. Just finished (and completely enjoyed) Sharp Objects. I stumbled upon your video and loved it. You pointed out things I noticed but didn't really take note of, as well as things so subliminal you must have watch each episode a number of times in slow motion. I would like to suggest 2 shows I loved and think you might also (actually i have a ton I'd like to suggest but we'll start here). First is The Leftovers. A series I consider flawless with tons of layered characters and themes. The other is Mr Robot which leaves a lot of fun clues and Easter eggs to search for. Hope you get a chance to enjoy them if you haven't already.

Series Finale:Milk:Does anyone know what Camille pulled out of the garbage in her St. Louis apartment, just before she discovered the floor made of teeth in Amma’s Doll House? (She pours the glass of “milk,” throws the 1/2 gallon carton in the trash, notices something, reaches into the trash and pulls out something small, flat, pink on white. Same shade as the nail polish. It’s the reason she started looking in Amma’s room in the first place.) I rewound that scene over and over but I can’t figure it out.

a mini blanket that Amma's new friend bought for the doll house.

Did Mae bring it? I thought it was made on the sewing machine when the two were sewing in Amma’s room in St Louis. I could be wrong however! I wonder why Amma throws it away. Hmmmm.
@justine1.266 жыл бұрын
Sally Burke I think that Mae made the blanket, (it very well could’ve been made on the sewing machine) but it shows Mae pulling it out of the doll house & showing it to Camille, then flashing a huge smile at Amma, who was using that sewing machine at the time. Amma easily gets jealous when it comes to Camille & Momma, so Amma threw away Mae’s contribution. 🙂 Sick little girl!

What was the meaning of the elephant tusk flooring that was too delicate to wear shoes?
@Seriesable6 жыл бұрын
Technically, it was a very old flooring that needed to be maintained well. Adora mentions the history of the flooring to the photographer in one of the flashbacks. Realistically, I think it was just another one of Adora's ways to manipulate her daughters: both Mariam than Amma were allowed in the bedroom, Camille never was, because 'she was dirty' aka Mariam and Amma allowed Adora to care for them, for their 'sickness', making them clean and pure. Camille, on the contrary, was dirty/wrong because she never caved to her mother's 'affections'. When Camille pretends to be sick and finally allows Adora to care for her in the final episodes, she enters the bedroom and Adora isn't bothered by the floor whatsover.

The fans??
@leilam-k95696 жыл бұрын
Jean Marc Vallée loved to film fans. It apparently wasn't scripted, he just kinda really liked the look of them and would stop filming actors to focus on them. Wind Gap is stuck on a loop? Life there is repeating itself? Camille is coming full circle? They're sprinkled all over the series.
@ГульнараМухамедьярова-ж8н6 жыл бұрын
Good question 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@Seriesable6 жыл бұрын
I think there are lots of artistic choices throughout, like when Vallee didn’t tell Amy Adams about the ‘don’t be a victim’ poster but knew that she would notice it and filmed her genuine reaction to it.
@Sbw19766 жыл бұрын
This is just my opinion but I think its a comparison to the pig barns( there were large fans in the pig barns)...the pigs are slaughtered and Camille's sister was also slaughtered by the mother. I havent read the book- it may be referred to more clearly there.
