I love these old music centres. When I was a kid everyone had one of these taking pride of place in the living room. Ours was a Sanyo - in the 80s my dad sprayed the woodgrain sides matte black to update it and then in 1991 I inherited it when it was replaced with a Sony stack system. They still sound great with that lovely warm rich 1970s sound. Why anyone would buy the Crosley or GPO rubbish when these are the real deal and can still be picked up for £20 or £30 beats me.

This is the sound of my youth. My parents had this one for as long as I could remember, until we bought a cd hi-fi back in 1992. It never broke down, never complained, about the only work it ever had done to it was replacing the stylus cart. Not sure what happened to it after i left home in 1995. When people talk about recording the top 40 off the radio on a Sunday, this was the machine I used to do it.

Great to see one of these up-and-running again. This was my first “sound system” back in the 80s; it was a hand-me-down from my uncle and served me well for many years.

Very nice sound from that unit! Seeing it's nearly 45 years old and still plays great! They built things to last back then! I enjoyed this video!

I recently found one of these in a skip, it wasn't working but I put a new plug on it and it was fine, everything seems to be okay but the tape deck, I was wondering if you'd be able to give me some more details regarding what you did to repair yours. I appreciate this video is six years old so not sure how active you are so not expecting a quick reply.

Hi Darren just got one of these and everything works well apart from the tape deck, running slow and chewing up tapes every time, can you advise me how to fix or let me know which parts I need to get her back up running right? Thanks in advance

Just bought one today 50euro , Ireland , WHAT do u mean when u say u put bluetac in the tonearm , how did u do this i would of thought putting bluetac in the tone arm would make it heavier not lighter by the way i love the look of it and Sharp has always been a great make , mine seems To work WELL except it eats tapes, any suggestions , just clean with alchol?

I just bought this one with 2 Sharp speakers. Great looking bit of kit. Phono and Tuner work fine, but tape gets eaten. When I turn on a tape both spindles dob’t slways turn it seems. While rewinding and fast forwarding works fine. Is it a matter of cleaning and applying some oil somewhere to get the tapes playing correctly again? Also is it possible to connect a bluetooth transmitter to the headphone jack so that I can connect a Marshall Kilburn bluetooth speaker to it? Cheers and nice restoration!

Hi Darren great work! 2 things if you could help me with mine. Do you know how I can fix the arm so it resets when the record finishes? And how did you replace the lights on the radio?
@maytaboo96993 жыл бұрын
Hello to you I have a Sharp SG-155H turntable - It works but when I move the arm to play it, the microswitch that plays the base of the record works not at the beginning of the record but in the second or third track How can you direct a bondage from the first song? And when I return it electrically the arm does not return to the end. Regards

When you put a new head in the cassette was it hard to get the adjustment right?

One reason the tracking force is higher is probably because it has no anti-skate adjustment,

I have a Sharp SG 155H the volume keeps dropping out. I could try spraying the potentiometer with electronic cleaning solvent and if that doesn't work I need to replace the potentiometer. I'm having trouble removing the faceplate so I can get in there to have a look. It has 3 screws under the faceplate but there's something holding it in place in the middle of the faceplate. Do I need a special tool to remove the faceplate?

Cheers!

You must only use 4ohm speakers.

Hey man, very nice work. I have the same model myself. It used to work perfectly but i havent switched it on for a few years. Now it turns on fine, radio works well but im having a problem with the turntable. When i lift the arm up i feel it start vibrating, so i assume the servo is trying to work, but for some reason the servo wont spin. When i try to twist it with my fingers it rotates no problem - not jammed. All the rubber is in good nick. On your vid you mentioned that you switched out the servo for one from a similar model, do you think this might solve my issue? Im a novice with electronics so i may have missed something basic, can send some photos if that helps. Very inspiring video!
