I like the O-ring trick at 15:30ish to hold the gasket in place while attaching hard-to-reach parts! Though, on my Grand Cherokee CRD, I could simply set the gasket in place on the engine block and 2 locating pins hold it aligned while setting the turbo base adapter thingy in place and bolt it down. Easy!

Man, thank you so much for writing this message. I greatly greatly appreciate it. check out the most recent one I did about the installation I don’t use them Brackets any longer. I use zip ties because I ran into a problem. Sometimes the gaskets would curl up as you’re putting them in…. That’s not good to have everything put back together and find out you have a coolant leak coming from a bent over gasket on your.

Thank you for your helpful video. I have a 2007 JEEP Commander CDR (300.000 km.) with the same OM642 engine and will have to do this work soon, but I think is too much for me, so will have to pay a mechanic to do it, also will have to change the fuel injectors. Can you give an idea how much can cost just the hand work (without the parts)?. Thanks.

I charge right around three grand for the Intakes and the oil cooler parts and labor, usually injectors do not ever need to be replaced they need gaskets replaced,

Awesome work I got a question can’t you just delete the Swirl motor by putting a 4.7 resistor on the plug and have the intake runners open. So it wouldn’t go in to limp mode. I mean it’s not the right way to fix it but people in Europe do it all the time I was reading about it I have a 2010 ML 350 I’m planning of doing that.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have video of that too..... The problem is it still builds up so it should be fixed correctly. And also it will still going to limp mode from time to time And will not pass emissions regulations.

Great, thank you for your videos. I am a new subscriber. Do you have an egr delete for OM642?
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
Technically I do have one but in order to do it you have to also refl the ECM. And then after that it’s not even necessary to block it off.
@jasonmoss6891
@jasonmoss6891 2 жыл бұрын
@@sharpcarco Where to get the ECM reflashed? OK, cool can you use a resistor at the EGR plug to trick the computer like with the swirl flap motor? How to avoid the engine light? 2.7 ohms? Trying to send less than 5v to the computer. Thank you for your time. After hours of soaking the crap out of these intakes, I will be venting crankcase in front of the air filter after a catch can or simply vent to the atmosphere. This EGR soot will not be trashing my engine oil anymore!
@jasonmoss6891
@jasonmoss6891 2 жыл бұрын
I will block the flow to keep the soot out of my oil and intake. I just want to keep the check engine light for monitoring everything else. Why don't they take the gases out after the DPFinstead of before? This seems so simple to me. A win for our lungs that does not dirty up engine oil and intakes.

Hey Clay, just gett'n into this and the turbo removal is going sideways - the studs that the exit pipe on the back of the turbo fasten to - the bottom one is spinning. Can you get at that by disassembling the turbo from the front or am I facked?....I can't even get a dremel cut off wheel near that bottom stud. Hoping you may have some insight.

@@sharpcarco Thanks for the reply, I don't have facebook though... I jumped the gun on my intitial 'ass-esment' - I wasn't fully on the nut, a thinner wall socket got me on there proper and after a fight it came off. Turbo is out of the way and I'm working on getting the manifolds out. Have you ever done this job on the 07-08 jeep cherokee? There's something mounted on the drivers side manifold close to the firewall with hoses coming off it - I can't get the manifold out without doing something with that. I tried taking taking the two nuts off and removing the whole thing since the plumbing clamps are not very accessible. I thought the thing was stuck and gave it a rap with a punch - it shifted but something internal is holding that on. Do you know what that is and whether I may have buggered something? What's the best way to get that off?

Great video Clay, around how much labor time do you charge for this minus the manifold refurb/cleaning?
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t really charge labor time by book I just generally charge a little bit less than $3000 for the whole job parts and labor. On these particular vehicles you generally run into a lot of little problems and labor time could go all out of whack….. The last one that I had in here though was ridiculous , there were like six broken off bolts, that were also stripped off bolts , bolts somebody JB welded into holes it was it was a freaking nightmare, the guy gave me like $300 extra but it wasn’t enough because it was like four extra days worth of work…. But I didn’t ask him for anything extra so that was pretty kind of him. them are the things that you run into when you work on cars other people‘s problems….

@@sharpcarco Thanks for the info clay that is good to know. These motors certainly are a pain to work on...by the way I am currently having an issue with this 2011 ml350 bluetec with a dtc 162-400 "Component B76 (fuel filter water level sensor) has an internal fault" The code will clear but come back after sitting with the ignition off for 20 minutes...replaced fuel filter/sensor and glow module which controls the heater and sensor. Harness continuity tests out fine. Have you seen this before? Thanks again
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you look on that same wiring harness there’s a ground wire that bolts to the intake more than likely that’s the problem, If it’s not the main wiring harness may be the issue sometimes they rub across brackets so wiggle that harness after you reset the code and see if the code stays gone away then you’ll know if the harness has some kind of defective wire in it

what is the easiest way to get to the egr flexi pipe on my 300crd 2007 diesel, i bought the car recently and it is leaking fumes from the actual joint, I dont think there was even a gasket on it.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
Luckily that’s one of the first tubes that you remove you just have to remove the rear heat shield off of the turbo it’ll allow you to get easier access to the tube, The bottom of that too but if you’re working on a sprinter goes around to the heat exchanger on the passenger side cylinder head so you have to get them to bolt out from underneath.. Putting them bolts back in on the bottom of the exchanger are A pain in the ass…. If you’re working on a sprinter I can probably answer just about any questions you have about this procedure off the top of my head can’t guarantee it though but certainly will try

Is there a vacumm line that references barometric pressure of the intake manifolds? Not sure how this works on this diesel since it has a throttle body but is their a way to read vacuum after the throttle body?
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
Well I would have to think they’re almost Hass to be. Unless they are taking the information from the mass airflow sensor now but I honestly and regretfully do not know the answer to that question maybe somebody else will answer sorry I couldn’t be of any help
