This shovel is always in my jeep, it's like having a tomahawk, a machete and a shovel all in one, and it has enough mass that if you were to whack someone with it, even with the sheath on it, it would probably break bone.

Cool video man! I'm a Marine vet and Russian, so this is right up my alley, haha. We used something similar called an e-tool. It was foldable, but not nearly as rigid.. and you probably couldn't throw it accurately. Going to add this to my survival pack! Have fun in the desert!

I have one of these shovels that I need to sharpen & 2 more on the way. I also have a Work Sharp. I have been trying to remember to sharpen the shovel I have for years. I'm going to get it sharpened today. Funny I found your video today.

The Worksharp certainly puts a nice working edge on the CS SF shovel, mine came up very well when I sharpened mine. I actually didn't do it free hand, rather worked using the guide (set at 30 degrees) and I am very pleased with the result I achieved.

That's a nice sharpening tool, but if you want to do it in the filed or whenever access to a power supply is not available, I simply use the Lansky Puck - it works just fine if you get the angle right - it's a bit tricky due to the curved edges of the shovel. But I would love one of those Work Sharp thingies :)

i have the work sharp, but i always have my leatherman and the file is perfect for touch ups and the puck is always in my kit

Cool. I've got the shovel. I have the worksharp. Guess I'll have to try it. I have a real love affair with my Cold Steel shovel. Right or wrong, the thing has become important to me as I have started to see it as something of a survival paradigm. A three in one tool. MORE than three in that the thing can be used as a pry bar as well. One thing I must say is that I sort of wish that CS would produce one that has even higher carbon so that I don't have to sharpen as often. Like if you really do use it for all the intended purposes then you are going to be sharpening it a LOT. I think that higher carbon would mitigate that some.

Got a question for you. I sharpened my mora companion and bushcraft black. Of course it sharpened it very well but now the scandi grind just don't look the same. Did I screw up my moras.

The Crovel is over priced and can't do half of what the Cold Steel Special Forces shovel can do. The CS Shovel is around $25.00USD. Don't waste your money on the crovel.
