The sharpening device doesn't matter too much from what I've come to realize. It's all about technique and being consistent in the way you do it. Gramps sharpens his Victorinox on the bottom of a ceramic cup and makes fun of my "fancy" tormek and whatnot, good old times

I use one of these to sharpen my knives as well (though I don't go to all the you do with stropping). I have been sharpening against the the backstop, but I'm thinking the way you do it is better. I'm going to try back the back stop off and try it.

I was about to buy a Ken Onion worksharp for $120 and the attachment for $70 that changes the belt orientation and has an angle guide. Thats too much fkn money and before you even buy additional belts for it. I'm going to just buy the 1x30 belt sander from Hazard Fraught instead.

Glad you seem to enjoy sharpening your knives...I much prefer dulling them. Just spent 3 days “In them thar hill’s” beating on a bucket of blades. And being my usual self, I didn’t think of documenting any of it till the last few hour’s. I actually did make a few crappy videos I’ll probably be embarrassed to show. @@peterbiltknifeguy all you KZbin knife sharpeners act like you have some crazy skill. You're literally metal finishers. You put it in the jig, you move up in grits. You polish. Wow. The fact that you guys all need 3 different 1x30 sanders and all that just means that you don't really have master level skills. Being a knife sharpener means one of 2 things. 1. You have almost no usable skills, otherwise. 2. You failed at whatever else you were doing before you decided to sit in a closet grinding on metal. You're not all that, man. Sharpening knives is a 1/10 AT BEST actual "skill". Sorry to burst your little "flannel and leather aprons" dream bubble.
