Welcome Back. In this video we are sharpening the grinder plate and the knife for our Meat grinder. If you have a meat grinder (regardless of the manufacturer even kitchen) you will want to watch this.
If you would like to support our work visit us at Patreon: / 2guysandacooler
Also be Sure to check out our Amazon Store front to see all the things we use: www.amazon.com/shop/2guysacooler
Need kitchen knives? We've teamed up with Dalstrong. Check out their awesome selection and get an automatic 10% off by clicking here: tinyurl.com/kx78nhhj
This Sharpening system comes in 2 grits. Course and fine. If you have never sharpened your plades or plates before you might want to start with the course then hit it with the fine. As regular maintenance the fine would be sufficient.
The kit also comes in different sizes (depending on your unit) Check out the link provided below and select the appropriate size and grit that you want to get. I'm using a #22 but they have all the sizes. Be sure to check your model before purchasing.
You can get the sharpening plates here. Be sure to select the right size for your grinder and the right grit (fine or course).
At Amazon:
amzn.to/37tE0EW
Or at the Sausage Maker:
www.sausagemaker.com/searchre...
To use select the grit that you want to start with. Soak the stones for 3-5 minutes. Gently assemble the grinder with the appropriate stone in place. Be sure tp attach the retaining ring without using a lot of force. Tighten it but not too tight.
Turn your grinder on for 5 seconds. Turn off and remove the stone. Repeat the process for both sides of the plate and the knife.
Once finished rub both sides of the plate and the knife across a piece of cardboard to remove the burr that was formed.
Maintain the sharpness with the fine grit stone and enjoy great results for years to come.

Very cool way to do this "automatically". I just use a good flat water stone of the proper grit and sharpen both the blade and plate flat against it. I get rid of the burr using a soft buff and finish by washing it and then running some stiff dough (just flour and water) through it to pick up any loose filings or grit I might have missed. It works quite well.

Hey Eric. I just ordered this sharpening system on Amazon. I noticed that the rating for these is not very good. I'm thinking that's because it's easy to break the stone. I bought both a coarse and fine stone. Hey, I have a #22 stainless steel grinder. Problem I have is the grinding tube is bolted on and does not come off like I see other grinders do. In order to clean mine, dont I have to unbolt it and remove the meat tube?

I find that taking a medium Sharpie pen and drawing lines a cross the plate will show you if it is warped or concave. Concave problems are likely fixable, run your sanding method until all Sharpie marks are gone, then do your fine grind. My factory plates, as I found out much later than I would like to admit, came and it was concave. I thought I was sharpening it but still got fat smear in the center.😠🤬🤬🤬! Then I heard about the Sharpie method. What a difference! I use a glass lapping plate, 220 & 400 grit wet/dry sanding paper. I was unaware of these stones.

Maybe it's out of topic but my retaining ring is stuck. I think it maybe I screwed it to hard or something because I just finished grinding my meat Can anybody help me?

I just got your message. Were you able to remove the ring? Sometimes I'll wrap a towel around the ring and gently tap it with a hammer to loosen it. My general rule is to tighten it all the way then come off 1/4 turn. Hope it worked out for you
