Online Japanese Carpentry Course through Real Construction⇒www.kickstarter.com/projects/1911438091/online-japanese-carpentry-course-through-real-construction We are building a Japanese carpentry school in France. We will document this entire process with drawings, photos and videos, and make it an online course so that everyone can learn about Japanese carpentry in English through this real construction project. We will use traditional Japanese techniques and construction methods, and use local materials such as wood, stone, and soil to build the most sustainable buildings possible. We hope you enjoy our carpentry learning materials. Let’s enjoy woodworking together!

I think the important part of this video is the hammering , there are other videos on the filing and to be honest that’s not so hard , ( well only on the eyes ! );) the files are Calle “feather edge saw files and come in several sizes , the length of file denotes size of saw so big file 150 mm for large saw , smaller 45 mm for small saw , you can find them on eBay sometimes , hope that helps

Where is the rest of the sharpening followed by the test cut?

I would love to sit down and chat with this man. Modern good blades like Suizan intend for the blades to be disposable. They CAN be sharpened, but rarly are. Tempted to make a small anvil and try my hand at fixing my old Ryoba saw.

What's the name of the "file" tool used to sharpen the teeth? thank you.

It's a japanese feather file. The one he uses looks like it was embedded in a backsaw-like contraption, to be used with a lot of pressure (see how the saw plate bends). This is only the first step of sharpening : deepening the gullets. It's not necessary to do this every time.

For those who still needs it, you can check pruning saw file, not sure if angles are the same.
