Just a note to anyone thinking of having a go at something like this themselves. When you're sanding carbon fiber, the dust created is SERIOUSLY evil stuff. Gram for gram it's even more likely to give you lung cancer than asbestos ! Please pleas please wear a tight fitting dust mask, And if you can it's best to do any sanding in a container of water (So the workpiece is submerged). Bare minimum is to keep the workpiece, sandpaper and the bench immediate around where you're sanding well wetted down to keep as much of the dust from getting airborne as possible. I know that some of you reading this will be young (And subsequently you still think you're indestructible), But spending an extra 15 minutes getting a mask on and spraying some water just before sanding carbon fiber is better than suffering a lingering and painful premature death 10 or so years down the line.
@Reman19755 жыл бұрын
That may be, But the difference is that the effects of prolonged exposure to most mild toxins is cumulative, The more exposure you have the more likely you are to be killed by it, But the scary thing about carbon fiber dust is (If you were very unlucky) you could end up with lung disease from inhaling a single fibre of the stuff, Or you could handle the stuff for years with no ill effects. It's like playing russian roulette without knowing how many bullets are in play, Or if the gun's even empty or full. You could be unlucky and give yourself a death sentence from grinding one hole slightly larger in a carbon component, Or you could work with the stuff for years and get away with it. The best option is just to take every precaution you can to avoid unnecessary risks when working with it.
