Just DON'T buy a 2nd hand helmet. I dont say every 2nd hand helmet is bad but there are a lot of clone's out there with a populair brand sticker on it which will most likely kill you rather than saving your life in case of an accident. Also you dont know the history of that helmet, the previous owner may have dropped it without having much damage on the outside but on the inside there may be damage. Me personally would just save up a few hundreds dollars extra to get new gear than buy it for cheap from some pawn shop

For everyone questioning the safety, he used tools and processes consistent with what factories do to make this exact same helmet in its carbon version. I know it's not tested and he should never sell it - he probably has no intention of ever doing it as multiple lawsuits would income very quickly - but this is probably even safer than what he started with. There is A LOT of overlay between the carbon fiber sheets, so the helmet would never split in half. Also he used the original padding, which is certified. The engineering is preserved by his moulding technique. He could take this to a track and he would be as protected, if not more, than someone using for instance a cheap SA2020 helmet.

Sorry man. I used to build helmet shells and would use “carbon Kevlar hybrid cloth “ for this project. Carbon splits even quicker than glass fibre. Also, make the mould from chop strand mat and leave the visor opening OPEN. Cheaper mould. I had 30 moulds and produced 150 shells a week. Got replaced with an injection moulding machine producing 1 polycarbonate shell every 85 seconds. 😢 😅😅 Built boats after that.👍👍

he just changed the shell, shouldnt the rating be the same? from what i understand arai uses fiberglass so since carbon fiber is more wear resistant and stiffer dosent that mean he made it safer?? asking because im really not sure

@@craigwallen8886 im pretty sure due to the fact the fiber is oriented and the way its held together probably lessens the structual strength but idk im no expert in carbon fiber

I would wager that if tested it would perform just as well as the stock hemet. The shell is there mostly to protect the liner and padding. It’s really the inside that protects the head. His fabrication skills are on point, properly overlapped layers and vacuumed bagged, I would trust it.
