There’s nothing like peeling away the layers and finding that beautiful wood ready for fresh varnish.

Wooden boats are such a dream to work on until you start to put a time limit on yourself, that really takes the fun out of it.

Not living in a sunny climate and not having all year round boating has its many challenges. Great viewing. Cheers

I restored a fibreglass 13 footer and at least 1/3 of the time was stripping it down and scraping the old paint from her.

I agree--this isn't life and death. that's the problem with TV people , no idea was reality is. always has to be some end point just because it's a TV show .

Well said. I am getting sick of modern shock and awe-tainment.

yes, well said - 80% talking about the stress of it and very little footage of boat renovation

Oh, dear! Will he finish his job? He seems doomed, but ... OMG He still has to keep a job. Oh, dear the sky is falling. Here's an idea ... Focus on that damn beautiful boat and the genuine effort to bring her back. And if they show that stinkpot with all those damn fenders over the side one more time ... I might puke on my keyboard. And if you haven't been watching search for "Leo and Talley Ho" now that is one hell of a project.

Forget the varnish and put some nice coats of paint on her.
@AquaMarine10004 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree and modern paints will last longer. A few small varnish highlights would complement the main painted surfaces. Cheers
@TheSalMaris4 жыл бұрын
@@AquaMarine1000 I'd forget all varnishing. I've seen some very nice painted boats and I've painted my own. There's still the prep work to do, but not to the degree you would need for bright work. And it will take at least 3 coats to look good. 4 to look really good--which is what I'd do.
@AquaMarine10004 жыл бұрын
@@TheSalMarisYou are right, varnish on old wood is a lot work and paint always looks smart. Cheers from Oz
@TheSalMaris4 жыл бұрын
@@AquaMarine1000 it's also easier to maintain and probably does a better job of protecting wood.

Let somebody else take the sharpie and do it properly and not some scruge , these boats need looking after and are good sail boats so if you don’t want to spend money leave it

This would have been so much better to watch if it was purely about the restoration of the boat. All of that voice over drama nonsence is not required at all!
