Did he just casually mention sailing around the Mediterranean in a 420 dinghy at the start. That thing is not meant to be lived on, let alone toured. Sounds like he would have some seriously fascinating stories to tell just from that experience!

He didnt say he lived on it but did sail it. A 420 has a centre board not a keel which means he can land on any beach and as travers114 suggested camp. Its 4.2m and really needs 2 people to sail right, but 1 could do it very carefully but not recommended. Its a fairly high preformance boat.

My thoughts as well. While the newer fancy boats are indeed nice, older boats just have that charm. I grew up in a very old house with actual handmade woodworking everything was solid wood no composites, and all of our vehicles were old. That boat is beautiful it may not have the latest gadgets or high tech composite construction but in my eyes it is perfect and just seeing it brings me peace.

A boat this big requires a lot of skills operate and to maintain in working order nevermind the initial cost to purchase...like he said start small..I have lived comfortably in a 26 foot cabin cruiser until the marina sold out to a condo development and I had to sell the boat and live on land..the boat lifestyle is not for everyone there's a lot of work but it is satisfying and peaceful

I have a 7 meter 60 years old wooden boat. And trust me it's hard to maintain. Every year you need to take it out and paint it over again(with special paints), then replace any boards that might be rotten(if you paint it well this happens every 10ish years) and replacing those boards is hard tbh and you need a lot of knowladge for it. For my boat i spend arond €1500 a year

I've done a little sailing over my 78 years. I now watch various boat projects on KZbin. My favorite rebuild is "Jaba" which after 3 years is now sailing. This 100 year old sailing yacht is the most beautiful live aboard boat I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. I would be happy to spend the rest of my life sailing in her. Well maintained and is definitely a "HOME" to be proud of. Well done, may you have many more horizons ahead... :)

@@davecopp9356 A little advice from someone that has lived on a boat for about 7yrs now , I'm guessing you don't have much knowledge about boats and what it takes to keep them afloat . A timber vessel is not for an amateur nor one that has just stepped into the marine world there can be loads of problems with timber boats and they can be hard , costly and very time consuming to maintain i would highly recommend a fibreglass hull with an inboard diesel engine . ✌️

Just think about what hurdles they have to overcome and how much freedom has been cut in the last years. For everything you need a license nowadays and first you pay fees. 50 years ago you could live from one dollar a day on your boat. That’s long gone. Today you need so much passive income for a liveaboard, you need to have a truly unique idea to achieve some serious money at young age , to get there or you use other people’s money per youtube. But then you are constantly forced to produce content until all the fun is gone. So basically it’s becoming more and more impossible and that is exactly what the rich people in power want. And I’m not criticizing capitalism here. Rather the opposite is the case. Communism camouflaged as socialism is on the rise and with it comes regulations and surveillance.

The problem is that people tend to think of maintenance as a chore you mustn't like. It's not. You maintain things you have, like your own body, so it stays in good condition and you don't have to buy new. It's respecting and honoring the value of things. In modern times people don't know anything and hence throw away their things, if the powercable of the TV is broken. Scale that further and you end up dissecting your engine, changing the headgasket and install new navionics.

If it's the cars, engine repair, furniture, electrical, water, boat, fiberglass, paint, welding aluminum, I do it all. Saves you great amounts of money and is a good feeling because you can do stuff. (The Book in this Vid ) Jacobson Howard Pussy. A provocatively entertaining, savagely funny satire on Donald Trump by Britain's greatest comic novelist. Pussy is the story of Prince Fracassus, heir presumptive to the Duchy of Origen, famed for its golden-gated skyscrapers and casinos, who passes his boyhood watching reality shows on TV, imagining himself to be the Roman Emperor Nero, and fantasizing about hookers. He is idle, boastful, thin-skinned and egotistic; has no manners, no curiosity, no knowledge, no idea and no words in which to express them. Could he, in that case, be the very leader to make the country great again?

@@msmegification not sure about this given that many in the world live either with very little or no money and provided that they are not contaminated by consumerism, they seem quite content i.e. you only need what you need and being trapped by a bloody great mortgage is not one of them

So tell me then, how do you afford to buy such a boat and rig it with all the high-tech equipment that's a board it without a great deal of money? Do you have any idea how much that equipment costs?
@msmegification
@msmegification 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not arguing with you regarding consumerism, or with the concept that you need very little to live comfortably. What I am saying is that this boat likely cost a great deal of money to procure upgrade and maintain. That doesn't come free or at a low cost, it is a very expensive endeavor and it's ongoing.

I have that, it's good. It's a novel about a spoiled prince who lives in a country that's entirely blind to climate change and pollution. They all go around in winter clothes because the entire city is air conditioned because its constantly 35 Celsius outside. He grows up with no respect for women and likes to 'grab em by the pussy'. It's almost as if it's aimed at a certain floppy haired orange hate-goblin. ;)

Fabulous Boat! Fabulous Owner! Fabulous Adventure. It is people like this gentleman that help me to stay on the right side of the fence or "Staying On Course" perhaps the latter is more suitable for the activity. What a dream. Perhaps I might take the gun out of my mouth long enough to send out a few thanks you's... You are an inspiration sir, if I could follow in your footsteps I would start right away, without any doubt. The way my sisters and I were raised all three of us can't live in a large city, a small city for that matter. "The More People I Meet The More I Appreciate My Dog! Much truth in that, authored by no other than Mr. Twain. So many obstacles to be able to just pick up and leave however it might be liberating to just leave, all doors open, my car left sitting there with the key in the ignition. What an honour it would be to live, work just for the learning experience. That is just what I seek, imagine my father and I had plans to move out to our east coast, Halifax Nova Scotia. We hadn't spoken in over ten years then brought together by his illness and our mutual love and passion for Tall Ships. I chased them up and down the east coast photographing them for his viewing pleasure.. Prior to the internets bubble bust. While i was editing he passed away. It was an opportunity lost ... now Im in my early fifties, as fit as I was when i was 25. I must apologize for the state of this comment, seems as though i might have fallen asleep at the wheel... I salute you sir. indeed! Ontario Canada

Mix 50/50 mineral spirits and linseed oil. Liberally mop the floor of the ship with it. It would stop most of that floor squeaking and protect shine. Wood dries with age. Looses its natural oils.
