Before I watch the video, in my experience these things are harsh / scratchy ….now I need to wait for my lunch break to hear your thoughts. The pilot is so much nicer

Oh my goodness! I bought my first pack Sharpie S-Gel 0.5mm pens in the fall of 2020 and since then they have become one of my favorite pens of all time! Quite possibly my absolute favorite! Mine were purchased in Canada, so I'm not certain if there are any differences from other countries, and I no longer have the packaging. I've never tried the 0.7mm, only the 0.5mm. Never tried colors, only black. I can say that they don't smear, they don't bleed through normal thickness paper, and I don't believe they smear if you use a highlighter over them or not, can't remember. The ink is super smooth and never skips. I love the 0.5mm size because you can do your lettering as large or as small as you wish, which is especially great when you want or need to write really small! They are comfortable to hold and use, and I love how they are clicky/retractable. I use them for writing lists and grocery lists, making notes, journaling, in my planner, and I also use them for drawing, doodles, and illustrations. I use them a LOT and quite heavily... it took about a year and a half before one of the four pens finally ran out of ink! That's when I went ahead and bought a second pack. Recently a loved one TOOK not one, but TWO of my Sharpie S-Gel 0.5mm pens, and has yet to return them... I'll have to half a talk with them tomorrow! Lol

I've tended to avoid Sharpie pens after being so disappointed with the Liquid Pencil. BIC Cristals for me, and that's good enough. Besides, the last thing I need is some new things to collect! Thanks for a thorough review again, Kevin.

I was so excited when I saw these were out that I bought a 2 pack of the blue 0.7 since that was the only option left at the store (I never use anything other than black 0.5). The first one I tried had a broken “clicker.” 😞

I love these pens in the 0.5mm black. They also don’t smear as a lefty. I mainly use these pens for note taking, and they last for about a semester and a half.

I bought a 2-pack of black and red in these, first one out of each pack I had to just throw out entirely because they didn't write at all. The ones that ended up writing I found very scratchy and skippy. I just don't see a reason to use these compared to a Pilot G-2 if you are in the market for a gel rollerball.

I recently got the metal version of these and I love it. It is the same pen, it's just that the barrel and the clip are metal. BTW, these DO take Pentel Energel refills, even the 1.0mm bold ones. Fits perfectly without any modification required. If you can't find the Sharpie ones, Energel refills are everywhere, and better imho. Pilot G2 refills might also fit, haven't tried yet.

I also got the metal version and put my refill from the uniball signo 207 micro in they fit just right and has been my favorite pen refill. I did try a energel refill but could not find a fine point so was not happy with that.

I do like them and do use them in the rotation, but I've found them to be hit or miss on being scratchy or smooth. Sounds like you got some scratchier ones. The Pilot G2 that you reviewed a year ago is superior. I'd also be interested in your review of the Uniball Signo. Sharpie also makes a rollerball version of the pen, fyi. Haven't tried that version yet, but I'd suspect it to be more consistently smooth.

I Agree--they are scratchy--wasted my money on them, of course lost money and gave them to a friend, which hated them too. I will stick with my Pentels or Uniballs.

How many pens (including refills) are actually made in the USA? Uni-ball and Zebra gel pens are dark and water proof, can be a bit scratchy. Pentel gel pens are smooth, quick drying dark but not waterproof. (Japanese made pens above are usually more reliable.) Linc Pentonic gel pens are also available.

I used to hate sharpies pen but then I realized that the sharpie bleed threw and the sharpie s gel pen don’t so it’s a upgrade now the writing I’d say it’s good but it’s not as good as pilot g2 or the grippy or friction pen but I’d would buy it
