There's a simple smooth quality to this figure, it's easy on the eyes, as opposed to the to much detail from toybiz.
@daltonwilliams17233 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Modok is meant to look disgusting, but the amount of detail on the older figure is just overkill and turns a design that's meant to be campy into nightmare fuel.
@DRAGOINTHEHOUSE3 жыл бұрын
@@daltonwilliams1723 I don't see how more detail is bad , to each their own. I prefer the Toybiz version, because of the detail, it looks more like a statue and the Hasbro looks more like a toy .
@Frankenstyleish3 жыл бұрын
The problem with the Toybiz M.O.D.O.K. is that it's way too thin, the rocket exhaust looks like jello pouring from a tap, and the face looks like it was hastily sculpted by a mid grade art school student. It seems like all their stuff relies on using above average paint apps on below average sculpts. I mean I know aesthetics are the ultimate subjective opinions, but the only Toybiz figures I actually like are The Sentinel and Galactus.
@DRAGOINTHEHOUSE3 жыл бұрын
@@Frankenstyleish I disagree, the fire effect on the Hasbro is weak AF. The flames look cheaply made and there's no depth to it , looks ,out of place since its a reused part . There's lots more Toybiz figs that are superior beside sentinel and Galactus. Pitt, giant man ,apocalypse and monkey man to name a few. The problem is ,new collectors can't see beyond body proportions. For example face off captain america to me is that best captain america hands down both in sculpt and deco. Imagine if the body proportions were like the new Hasbro figures of today, it wouldn't be a contest . One thing you can't deny, the attention to detail Toybiz put on their figures shows they went above and beyond .

@Frankenstyleish3 жыл бұрын
Quick tip. The front heaviness of the figure was bothering me. I wasn't storing the face and extra hands inside to protect the face from damage, so i got some painters masking tape and made a taped pouch with 4.5 ounces of lead fishing sinkers and taped it inside to the bottom back of the rear cover. It worked like a champ and the figure is perfectly balanced and way more stable.
@sully_hash12153 жыл бұрын
Did you find the stock figure was unstable and twisted from side to side easily?
@Frankenstyleish3 жыл бұрын
@@sully_hash1215 I didn't notice that being a problem, but it's front heaviness bothered me enough that I did the lead weight trick within 10 minutes of unboxing it. I just checked this second, and with the weights it's pretty resistant to rotating and trying to turn it side to side just has the base sliding on the surface like a solid piece.
@Frankenstyleish3 жыл бұрын
Hold on actually. Yes I do remember that it was a little wobbly at the two connection points of the upper exhaust flame. The added weight puts enough pressure on those points to seat them perfectly.

Hasbro’s running a business: they can’t give us EVERY desired figure all at once. They’re smartly staggering their releases to ensure that they still have some important characters left to make in the line. That was one of Toybiz’s big mistakes; they only focused on A-listers at first and their final waves ended up only being B and C-list characters.

@@ducksoda7 As someone who was collecting during Toybiz’s heyday back in the 2000s, I think that period was generally obsessed with making superheroes and other pieces of fiction as gritty and realistic as possible. I think that’s really reflected in the way the Toybiz Marvel Legends look. And I actually do remember loving those figures when they were new because that style was what everyone wanted. But flash forward to to today and most people seem to be wanting to return to the clean and classic looks for these characters. And I now that I have a large enough collection of Hasbro Marvel Legends to compare to my old Toybiz collection, I’m shocked by how much more I prefer my Hasbro Marvel Legends. I had sold my toybiz MODOK months ago in anticipation, wanted the 120 everyone else seem to get but in the end I got about 70 each so that paid for these two of mine. Once I realized Hasbro was committed to reproducing everything from toy biz I sold all the toy biz stuff except MODOK to afford the new stuff. The only figure I really felt I had to re-purchase was Beta Ray Bill - The stupid black leotard and goofy hammer version just didn't make it. I also replaced a flame variant Super Skrull - used to have all three. I hate to backtrack but it's been necessary with a few characters and as long as I don't spend more than I made on it I'm OK. For $50 this figure really should have had some lights. You can buy a really nice coffee maker with multiple lights, a thermal carafe and a heating element for 50 bucks! If I hadn't just traded laterally I'd be pissed off. Hasbro isn't sticking it to the scalpers - they're trying to replace them charging scalper prices like Mattel did with DC Signature, like a corner crack dealer. 35... 40 maybe. 50 is a rip-off... because they can. Fuckers. Like you said, I like the uniformity with the newer figures - so I keep playing ball with these toy-crack dealers. Thank God I'm almost finished. What do you think, $500 for haslab Galactus? I'm hoping to get rid of my marvel universe version.
