#Tharoorisms
Prolific writer and popular politician Shashi Tharoor has a predilection for long words and telling phrases. His unerring sense of humour lightens up the serious oeuvre of his work which includes a powerful indictment of colonialism, a philosophical appreciation of the Hindu religion and hard-hitting political critiques. In conversation with Mihir Swarup Sharma, he speaks of the personal and the political and the beliefs and ideas that have anchored him in his public life and literary career.
Presented by Dainik Bhaskar
THE JAIPUR LITERATURE FESTIVAL
Described as the 'greatest literary show on Earth', the Jaipur Literature Festival is a sumptuous feast of ideas.
The past decade has seen it transform into a global literary phenomenon having hosted nearly 2000 speakers and welcoming over a million book lovers from across India and the globe. Our core values remain unchanged: to serve as a democratic, non-aligned platform offering free and fair access.
Every year, the Festival brings together a diverse mix of the world's greatest writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, sports people and entertainers on one stage to champion the freedom to express and engage in thoughtful debate and dialogue.
Festival Co Directors Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple, alongside Producer Sanjoy K Roy and Teamwork Arts, create a platform for an array of speakers to debate, discuss and present their ideas in the annual five-day programme set against the backdrop of Rajasthan's stunning cultural heritage and the Diggi Palace in the state capital Jaipur.
Past speakers have ranged from Nobel Laureates His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, J.M. Coetzee, Muhammad Yunus and Orhan Pamuk, Man Booker Prize winners Ben Okri, Howard Jacobson, Margaret Atwood, Marlon James, Michael Ondaatje, Paul Beatty and Yan Martel, Pulitzer Prize winners Andrew Sean Greer, Benjamin Moser, Colson Whitehead and Jhumpa Lahiri, Sahitya Akademi winners Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, M.T. Vasudevan Nair as well as the late Girish Karnad, Mahasweta Devi and U.R. Ananthamurthy along with literary luminaries including Amish Tripathi, Chima¬manda Ngozi Adichie, Vikram Chandra and Vikram Seth. An annual event that goes beyond literature, the Festival has also hosted Amartya Sen, Amitabh Bachchan, the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Fry, Thomas Piketty and former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai.

Is there anyone in India or elsewhere to match Sashi tharoors fluency in English language. It is astonishing.in Indian politics there is no one who could match him.all his speeces in Lol Sabha are outstanding. A fit candidate certainly for Indian Prime Minister and Congress party should promote him and project him for prime ministership without any ego.

Tharoor clearly understands that there is no way to dismiss our life with each other as a community as "just politics." We have no choice but to deal with politics in working out how to live together.

With all respect to you Sir, Dr. Sashi Taroor that if there is no Congress possible without Rahul and Sonia ( The Gandhi Family ), Congress is done completely. They are the last nails on the coffin of Congress party. Moreover, just because Congress workers bow down to The Gandhi Family, rest of the Indian population care nothing for them. We want able people like you to lead the country. If Sonia and Rahul do not quit themselves, very soon Congress party would be in such a state that they won't have enough seats in the Parliament, to be taken seriously. Blame totally falls on Rahul and Sonia, for not quitting voluntarily, knowing people's wishes. Thank you Dr. Sashi. I can understand your plight in this regard, being caught in between devil and the sea.

North indians don't know how Keralites and south indians generally attached emotionally to sabarimala. as they don't nothing about south indian culture , they know better knowledge of culture about pakistan as it is more geographically nearer to them , than far away south india.

Honestly I have always felt his malayalam has no slang what so ever! quite artifical and sound more like me speaking hindi a person who dreadfully swolled it and not acquired naturally...
