Your reading of the fact that english general is able to take over as fast as the queen because he is playing chess his way is actually sharp. Watced the movie yesterday and never occured to me that it was a reference to the scene where English chess rules were being told by that old man to the two friends.

Just found your channel, and I am impressed by your work. I had a question though, as you mentioned the text states that these are brave men essentially perverted by their new found modernity in the chillums of Lucknow. While, in the film they seem to be represented as people too rich and ignorant to care about the incoming queen only impacts the poor. Wouldn't the text be a much more sad yet interesting view on these two protagonists, as the ignorance of the rich is nothing new(seen in films like titanic or parasite).But, the idea of social progress causing this new found interest towards hedonism had me question progress itself. What do you think? Edit : fixed minor grammar issues

Revisiting this comment, I feel like this may be seen as me going in a weird Nietzsche territory of questioning social progress due to lack of morality. What I was trying to figure out was the opposite. I know many people who are not theists, but still maintain fundamental morals that modern people of faith lack. I wanted to know how that is and why. Anyway, just adding context to my previous comment :)
