Dr Powell’s death was kinda sad IMO, just because he really wanted to make peace with the Cybertronians. It just adds more to the Decepticons’ genuine evilness that the Bay films didn’t fully grasp: that they were willing to kill a harmless scientists who had just helped them, when they could’ve just left then and there to get a head start sending the message to the Decepticons… *Imagine if Powell had met the Autobots and Optimus Prime instead, they would’ve been pals for sure.*

I don't see how Bay films didn't fully grasp the genuine evilness of the Deception. Remember how the Deceptions killed their human collaborators after they serve their purpose, or how they plan on enslaving the entire human race to rebuild Cybertron, or how much of a psychopath Laserbeak was in Transformers 3, or how the Fallen wanted to literally destroy the sun, etc

@@febrian0079 That’s the thing. All of the Decepticons’ actions were solely just for the sake of surviving, kinda like animals. I’m not saying that the Decepticons in the Bay Films were _not_ evil, it just felt like they were generic bad guys going against the protagonists. However, what makes this different for me here is that the Decepticons actually spent time with Powell, and in turn Powell became close to them, not knowing their true intentions. And when the Decepticons finally revealed their intentions, they just straight up killed him even though it practically served no strategic purpose. Anyway that’s how I feel about it.

@@soularprimestudios5930 I think it was more of Prime they were specifically afraid of, because of how much power Prime commanded on the battlefield. After all, Prime is one of the most seasoned Autobots for a reason.

There's a detail regarding this scene that I think is neat. Throughout the whole film Shatter consistently refers to Powell as "friend Powell", but when he asks who Optimus is during the interrogation she dismissively calls him "human Powell" since he was basically just a way to get to Bumblebee. After he realizes the Decepticons lied about being peacekeepers and warns Burns, Shatter sarcastically calls him friend one last time before letting Dropkick kill him. I just really like how simply they conveyed Shatter enjoying twisting the knife in people she's betrayed with just one word.

I love how all the transformers in this movie have personality, rather than being a copy paste personality of being fearless and evil like in the bay movies. It's cool to see that some decepticons like Dropkick fear Optimus Prime. Had Shatter not thought of the idea to call the Decepticon reenforcements when Optimus arrives, Dropkick would probably be self doubting them coming to Earth alone

I can't believe Powell was this stupid enough to trust Shatter and Dropkick when he first met them, he's supposed to be a scientist for crying out loud, they both looked more suspicious than Bumblebee did. Even earlier Burns found their army name "Decepticons" suspicious because it sounded a little evil, and he was correct, but I'm more surprised he was still being a fool thinking Bumblebee was evil after he told him he didn't want to hurt anyone and told him to run when a Decepticon jet was flying over to kill them.

To be fair, if a pair of alien robots told you that they needed your help stopping a war criminal that could bring said alien war to earth if he isn't found, I think you'd probably be eager to help too. Even ignoring the whole "planet-wide war" aspect, two aliens have just expressed interest in working with you. I think Powell was simply so excited about the situation that he never stopped to consider the motives of the people he was working with until it was too late.
