If you consider the years those timbers have been doing their jobs even with the earth doing the shake rattle and roll. Mines are never "finished" theres just places that you either timber back up or just avoid. Good thing you know the difference.

Yes, I tell everyone on the tours. These minds were only meant to be temporary and they’ve all well exceeded their “sell by” date. It’s a testament to the early minor skill, but these places will all be gone eventually.

Gotta wonder if that big quake up in NorCal on December 5th has anything to do with the mine being more "noisy" than you're used to it being. I know it was strong enough to get the water moving over at Devil's Hole about 40 miles north of you.

You do give the best mine tours on the internet Ross. Big boulder in that one area above the ladder looks more like the Sword of Damocles! Rest of the roof is just shards of huge boulders waiting their chance to come down in spite of best they could do attempts to hold them at bay way back in the day. Looking more like the Jenga room of death.

WOW that would make me nervous. I'm assuming your plans are to *repair that whole area, Ross, over time, rather than just seal it up. I am glad there were friends waiting outside the mine, should they be needed. 👏🏻👏🏻

It will take some time and lots of new wood to get things in order. Plenty of explosives and pick-and-shovel work too. It’ll probably never happen in my lifetime, but ain’t gonna lie, I’m looking to see what I can do.

My people call them, Nannambitz, not friendly. You are well read. I suggest the book, _"The 49ers". Read about their experiences outside Furnace Creek. There's a 12' dug pit with a indigenous man stuck inside on an ancient trail. The elders speak of these pits dug to trap the people walking at night to travel through the heat of Death Valley.

@tecopamines 29 күн бұрын
Stephen King may be an excellent author, but man, he ruined the reputation of the Tommyknockers. They’ve never been evil or malevolent or dangerous…. Helpers at best, pranksters at worst. They’re the good guys underground-they are the ones that let you know when bad things are coming and sometimes, rumor has it, they leave you artifacts to find.

The weight and pressure on those timbers must be enormous. Some of them, big as they are, were crushed and broken like matchsticks. Lumber like that used in the mine would cost a small fortune today- if you could get it at all. I guess those old miners had to be carpenters, architects and engineers as well as tunnel diggers and blasters. I have to admit the mine shafts look like scary places to me. It's too bad you don't stumble across a huge gold deposit, the legendary Mother Lode. Then you'd be rich & famous. Watch out for bats and scorpions!

To clear that out and make it safe you would have to start at the top and work down. Not going to happen I suspect.

Not on my budget. Although I think we could be cleared from the bottom by blowing those boulders into smaller fragments, but again, not on my budget.
