Whether by luck or judgement, the Morse franchise has been extremely lucky to have had such talented and charismatic (in their own very individual ways) men as John Thaw, Kevin Whately and Shaun Evans as the lead actors. The casting is spot on, but the chemistry is perfect.

As an American, I guess I’m spoiled cos our seasons can go on for FOREVER 😂 So, really short seasons in British tv feel weird to me. I wonder if that means the actors get more chances to be in major roles cos so many shows are going on at the same time, but on the other hand, each actor probably needs to find work on multiple, simultaneous shows, which seems really challenging 😵 I notice the same British actors popping up on multiple mysteries; whether tv or in movies, and it’s really fun to see them play such different characters. It’s also fun when my mom and I recognize the same actor in a diff role and costume, etc. 😊 Like a random, informal side game for us 😂 Trivia or something. British mysteries ROCK! They got popularized w/ Sherlock Holmes, and my mom and I’ve (I have?! grammar, grammar 😝) been watching TONS of them; esp. Midsomer Murders, Poirot and Miss Marple 😀

I absolutely love this show, but as a non native speaker, I find their lingo highly fast, idiomatic and hard to follow. I dare say that without the subtitles, I would miss a considerable amount of the lines. Interesting to hear that a British person must also pay close attention.

Endeavour is one of the best period crime dramas on British TV! I'm from across the pond and have watched all the US crime shows, and many of the Brit crime shows and it's my favorite genre. I found it on Netflix originally, and just subscribed to Masterpiece and I'm starting over. Amazing how much I missed the first time...but only through 3 seasons. Shaun Evans was made for this part and adds so much intelligence and class to the show even as a humble and not landed gentleman. The entire cast is great as they weave through the '60s. I love his Irish accent IRL and want to hear more of it, although he does a terrific job with a generic educated English accent. I fell right in line with his character and didn't care for Fancy at first, but he has grown on me....and not I'm hearing him say Fancy dies, so I'm devastated. Crazy how good acting draws you in. I'm so looking forward to carrying on to catch up. I was very young in the '60s but I remember a lot of it.....hanging over into the '70s, etc. Did the author Dexter have a brand of naming unusual surnames? They are certainly unforgettable.....Thursday, Strange, Fancy, Trewlove etc....not to mention "Endeavor" Morse being the most intriguing. I had no idea that the show "Lewis" was also written by Dexter (I hope I have that correct).....but I enjoy that one as well...more contemporary in modern-day settings.

The thing about will they or won’t they, with Morse and Joan, their feelings run way too deep for a casual affair, but they lost their moment, so now it’s about living with regret for never having tried. And that is more powerful in shaping their characters going forward. Perhaps far into the future the timing will come round again.

Such is the calibre of this mans acting, that I never knew he was Liverpudlian until after I watched him being interviewed after the end of Endeavours story. And half my family are from Liverpool. The whole series was a quality production with such a moving ending.

I have watched one episode from each series: pre-, peri- and post-Morse. The striking feature of pre-Morse is that, unlike the others, its view of Oxford belongs to the realm of lurid fantasy. I watched the Inspector Morse series when I was a young man and it shaped my thinking. Even though my twin sons are called Robert and Lewis,I have never watched the last episode of that series. Noticed one thing about the whole series. HE NEVER *VERBALLY* EXPLAINS TO ANY CHARACTER WHY HE DID THE MUSTACHE. Not in words. He doesn't tell them it was done to remind him he hadn't solved the George Fancy case. Not in the show. So. That leaves me one thing, to think about the poster from series six. Look at the center, where Morse is on the left and Joan is touching his face. I bet she asked him why he had the mustache and he told her exactly why he did it. And then maybe things went haywire. Liked they kissed... or something. Because the scene where she touches him wound up being cut out, and replaced by a short one near the beginning of episode 1. She yells at Morse that she can't take this, because she has to go to night class. Now, what could she be talking about? Did they start to get into a relationship, and Mr. Lewis had it cut because it was too soon in the series? He got it renewed up to series eight and decided to take the plot wandering the heck off into the brambles again? Just another wonderful non-resolution from the people who love to confuse you. I haven't seen this many wilful disappointments of the audience since "Dallas," for pete's sake, and I didn't even like that show. Stop breaking my heart.

I was disappointed in Season 6. Too short, too fast, and too hastily wrapped up. I understand if Shaun Evans and Roger Allam are in demand and therefore their time is limited - I'm glad for them as they certainly deserve it. They also hardly even nodded to the relationship between Morse and Joan. I'm hoping Season 4 wasn't the high water mark for them. Still can't wait for season 7.
