Fun Fact : Hutson has written short stories on the wind during the witching hour upwards of three times during his career, and once in a predawn fog. Sadly none of those works ever saw the light of day.

The Shaun Hutson interview is taken from an all night horror marathon that was on the BBC in the early 90's. Movies and interviews in between. They interviewed all the big names in horror except of, I think, John Carpenter (boo!). I still have the first 6 hours on VHS, bloody tape ran out halfway through Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein 😄

OMFG 😲 Matthew Holness once was asked where Garth Marenghi's accent came from and he said "from a lot of people we don't like" but that was clearly an evasion. It was THIS guy!!! Mind blown 🤯 Straight out the top of my head. Like a really explosive sh!t that takes you half a roll of paper to clean up.

He was quick… He said himself in the interview that he’s writing for teenage boys. Hutson’s books are full of over-the-top gore and lurid sex scenes - for the sort of young men who aren’t very likely to be having any 😂

Nah. I mean, yes, he has all the trademarks, but the thing is - guys like that were a dime a dozen back in the day. It’s just such an archetype. If Matthew Holness had never even heard of Shaun Hutson it would surprise me about as much as if he had. There were just so many guys like this. It’s a pity people don’t read anymore.

I've always felt Shaun was much more the inspiration than the likes of King or James Herbert. The only difference I think is Shaun isn't as grandiose and po-faced as Garth, and does seem to have a sense of humour about his work .
