What do you mean before they were a thing? You do realise people have been doing "selfies" ever since cameras were invented over a hundred years ago,? They were doing them with Polaroids in the 70s and 80s. It's not a new thing. Humans all have the same thought patterns whatever you think you've invented has already been done. Like you honestly think in a hundreds years of photography nobody has thought to take a picture of themselves with the camera? It's not that revelatory...
