People think treating disabled kids exactly the same as abled kids, assuming others would do th3 same. They think it's helpful, not treating them like a burden, but the fact of the matter is that they're different. People need to be treated differently based on their abilities.

One thing I really love about autistic people is how honest they are with no disregard for feelings because nobody understands their feelings and how hard it is for them to coexist with the rest of the 🌎. My nephew is autistic and he is as honest as a saint and humble as a poor man and I live him and I'm his favorite uncle. Well I'm his only uncle 😅

Dr Murphy actually looked a bit conflicted- as if he was aware that he can’t just say things without considering the consequences and the outcomes (which would make sense as it’s happened so many times, that he’s likely very conscious of that now). Yet he knew this was one of those moments when he couldn’t not speak up. He knew how differences can make things so much harder, especially for kids, and he seems to genuinely want to help everyone live their best life possible.

Man this brings back a lot of memories. Ended up needing a tracheotomy like 3 months after I was sedated during a seizure I did not come out of. Well my voice got really rough and hurt to talk went to all my doctors about it and they said was probably just scratches from the tube down my throat. Well one night I really could not breathe had to go outside when it was freezing out because the cold air was the only thing that I could help. I ended up passing out on the front porch and my mom came out there and I wasn’t breathing. I guess I had knew something was wrong and called 911 before I passed out but couldn’t speak since my throat was basically closed. Well that brought me to a coma for about a week and a half and woke up not being able to talk and the weirdest most scary feeling of not being able to talk and my breathing being very very limited. Had to have it for about 2 years. Ended up getting a speaking valve about a year into having it which made it considerably better. As I do not know sign language and my writing is not the best lol. Shucks even still have my breathing machine right next to my bed cause still have problems with breathing at night sometimes. Still have seizures but been doing pretty good about to be half a year since my last one in my sleep. Hoping to finally get my license as a dang 20 year old but hey at least hoping will get it soon. Thanks if you read this long long comment just know if your going though anything like in the video or just any of this your not alone. Best of luck and love to everyone out there.❤️

Hey ♡ There's hope- my husband had brain cancer at 11 that caused seizures that he still had. They operated, but it was too close to his short-term memory.. center? Anyways. He still has them, but they're controlled with meds. He has a license, though if he has a breakthrough, he can't drive for a while. Regardless, he's highly successful in his career, has a license, controlled seizures, and is happy. It took him a while to get over the limitations it imposed on his life, but he did, and he's so much better for it. ♡

I grew up watching my deaf uncle navigate the hearing world without being able to hear or speak in a way most people can understand. He’s one of the relatively small segment of the deaf community for whom hearing aids are ineffective, so he communicates almost solely with sign. It’s always presented challenges for him and I saw him face discrimination before knowing what the word even meant or that anything could be done about it. He was even wrongly terminated from his job because he tapped a lady on the shoulder to get her attention and they refused to accept that he couldn’t just call out to her and used it as an excuse to fire him. I think they knew he wouldn’t do anything because he can’t afford an attorney and so much of the system is inaccessible to the deaf anyhow. The nearest attorney who speaks sign is almost 100 miles away. Even at family gatherings sometimes everyone gets wrapped up in conversation and forgets to sign. He can read lips a bit, but it means he’s sort of stuck on the sidelines of the conversation with his own siblings. I know not everyone in the deaf and nonverbal communities has this sort of experience and everyone has their own perspective and stories, but I am glad the parents listened to Dr. Murphy.

I was basically non verbal up until I was 7, only speaking to my second oldest sister and I started school late due to being unable to socialize with my other kids. One day I was found behind the tv ( I was a weird kid. I’d clean the dust pieces from behind the tv with a tooth pick bc it was peaceful for me and I was very happy to hide away) and started belting out Barbie girl. My mom was so happy to hear my voice, even if it was a terrible cover of Barbie girl. Slowly they started getting me to open up! Now I sing openly on karaoke nights and I’ve had a few local gigs and I never shut up! I head off to college in the fall for English ( journalism) and music!

When a child has limitations of any kind, the parents have to come to the harsh realization, that their child is going to have a hard time socializing with others. Let it be that the child is mute, blind, deaf, has ADHD or autism. Limitations come with all kinds of complications and difficulties. The ones who have to understand this the best, are the family and friends of the child with limitations. "But you cant call it limitations!" someone out there may say. But they are limitations. They limit a person's life, their growth and experiences. But, there are times that these limitations have loopholes. A mute person can become a successful song writer and performer, a deaf person can become a famous music composer, and a blind person can become an author of best-seller books. Limitations can limit what chances a person has. But it doesnt always mean it limits what we can dream and work for, though.
