I grew up in Philadelphia back in the 1960s and 70s. Actually Philadelphia pretzels was the most popular Philly food sold on every street corner even in school at recess. I remember in 1974 when the Flyers won the city went mad. They were overturning cars and buses everywhere, everyone was out in the streets it was the craziest thing I ever saw. Of course cheesesteaks, and hoagies and Philadelphia pizza was also very popular. I remember when i and my friends in the 1960s would go to the local Deli and get a large delicious Italian hoagie for $0.99 cents and a soda for $0.25

0:32 there IS a team in Edinburgh called the Capitals. They're in the Scottish National league, which is one step below the EIHL (the top British league). The EIHL has the Fife Flyers and used to have the Capitals and the Murrayfield Racers.

The Amoroso's make the best hoagie rolls! Too bad, Shaun, Angelo's did not use Amoroso rolls for your cheese steak sandwiches according to Rocky's estimation. Another reason to come back! Too bad it didn't last though. I guess hockey isn't very popular in the UK. But here in Columbus, Ohio we have a hockey team, the Blue Jackets.

The Broad Street Bullies they used to call the Flyers, they were a rough team to play against. Come to Canada and see our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs who are in the playoffs with Tampa Bay Lightening and you’ll see some great hockey. The Edinburgh team were called The Murrayfield Racers.

We call it Hockey. We don't use the term "Ice Hockey." If it's on the street it's Street Hockey, if it's on the field it's Field Hockey. But Hockey is just Hockey to us. 😁 But glad you liked it!

So glad you got to see an Ice Hockey game! Even here in the US it is a relatively niche sport outside of specific markets, so for me as a north easterner I always make sure to bring people who haven't ever been as the atmosphere is just fantastic at the right game. Much more working class/gritty atmosphere historically with some of the north east teams as well as a TON of them in very close proximity, so these combined factors make for a lot more of a aggressive/rowdy/loud and interactive experience as there are actual away sections and opposing fans to chirp at. Going to an Islanders vs Rangers game for example is going to be very different than going to a Stars vs Panthers game. Though I myself am an Islanders fan, I'm glad you got to see the filthy Flyers as your first game as they truly do embody this spirit of north eastern hockey in a perfect way as a franchise, only the Bruins would be more apt. If you are ever in the NY metro area and want advice on where to go or who to see let me know!

lol I'm not much of a sports guy....I do know what our local hockey team is, it's the San Jose Sharks. I went to a game once and I felt like "meh". Admittedly, our seats were really high up so I couldn't see much. But I would much rather go to see a traditional martial arts tournament. Not that "combat sports" crap, but actual martial arts, where they bow to the sensei and then bow to each other, then touch gloves and spar, and at the end they bow to each other and bow to the sensei. 🙂

It's not strictly "American" hockey, since most of the players are either from Canada, or Europe. There's usually a handful of US-born players on each team, even if they are based in an American city.

I live in Edmonton. We have the Edmonton Oilers. We had Wayne Gretzky, the greatest hockey player in the world. Stanley Cup is the highest award in hockey. It is named after Lord Stanley, a Governor General of Canada. Governor General represents the monarch of Britain of the time. We have many great hockey players. Zamboni is a Canadian invention.
