Nice work mate! Life hack: I use a piece of folded aluminum foil under the oil filter covering the primary so any and all oil that comes out of the filter or engine goes directly into the drain pan.

@@TheGingybeardMan do you by chance know where I can get a decent sporty tank that is more than a 1.9 lol and have you ever Seen a sporty gas tank bra? My dad put a dent in my tank, I'd like to cover it with a black bra, but NO ONE MAKES A 1.9 gallon friggin tank bra , it's too small. Harley I love you, but dude, why a 1.9 on a 20 sporty, all the other ones I saw have a 2.3 and I guess that's what I get for not actually thinking about that when I drove off. Lol. N e ways. I'm a SPORTSTER4LIFE, but haven't found a good tank yet. I got a 76' AMF red white blue throwback paint, cool, I love it, but I need a bigger tank. 100 miles per fill isn't cutting it... any ideas Gingy??! Do you watch Red Rider from Canada?! @@irishguyjg_2ndchancerecovery Mate I've bought second hand tanks off ebay and never had any issues. Otherwise I'd recommend looking on the TC bros website, as they sell loads of tanks. Here's a link www.tcbroschoppers.com/collections/gas-tanks/products/efi-tank-for-sportsters-3-3-gal-with-screw-in-cap-bung My sportster has a 3.3 gal tank off a sportster iron 883. Was the one thing I never liked the look of on a sportster engine. In my opinion it just looked cheap. Shaving down the cam cover gives it more of an old school style 👍

Sure makes the Cam Cover/Transmission area look smaller. Too bad this turns into an Oil Change if you do it as Synth Oil is pretty dear these days. Definitely a good look.

Love your work,I'm afraid I'm not confident enough to tackle some of the work you do but I did manage to install an external breather similar to what you had on your Street Bob with a slight variation,I didn't buy the DK customs catch can and have just stuck to the brake fluid reservoir does the job,the DK customs catch can while great was a bit pricey for me on a limited budget anyway keep up the good work.
@TheGingybeardMan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. To be honest I wouldn't recommend the DK customs catch can anyway. Mine started to badly rust on the inside after only 1000kms.

@@TheGingybeardMan Wow that's not great I was nearly going to pull the trigger on one but the brake reservoir is working really well so I thought I can get away with what you first used,note to self I forgot to drill a couple of vent holes in it rode around the block and the dipstick on my fatboy soon let me know when it shot out a hit me in the leg, fortunately no permanent damage to me or the bike.

Did you have to remove the rockers to take the cam cover off? Also, did you chop the sprocket cover too?
@TheGingybeardMan Жыл бұрын
No mate there's no need to remove the rockers. I ended up going with a different sprocket cover which I did another vid on.

I hope you didn’t listen to the author. He’s a complete hack. Yes you absolutely have to loosen the rocker boxes. Make sure you are at TDC on the compression stroke for each one. Taking off the cam cover without doing what I wrote above puts a ton of stress on the engine cases and the bronze bushings. You have hundreds of pounds of valve spring tension pushing on the cam lobes. You have to relieve the tension and pressure before you can loosen a single bolt on the cam cover. A few people get lucky but most do not. Even the ones that think they got lucky really didn’t. Why? Well unnecessary wear was just created inside of those bushings and installing the cam cover back on while everything is under tension just created even more tension between the case, cam chest, and the cover. Just because you have a camera and think you know how to do something or you think ‘my way is better’ doesn’t mean that it is. Videos like these are responsible for used bikes and cars being a complete basket case on the used market and this is a fact that cannot be argued against. He’s a hack.

No reason this couldn't be done on 03 and earlier models right? Also, how did you pull the cover off without the cams coming out with it? Is there a trick to that?
@TheGingybeardMan Жыл бұрын
Yep this can be done on other sportster models as long as the cam cover is not chrome plated. There was no trick used to keep the cams in place.

So what do you do with the hole on the bottom towards the front?? I think it’s lined up in the cover w/the #4 cam front exhaust. Does Oil drip out of that hole in the cover or is that a breather hole or something thats cast in the cover?? I’ve seen vids where people Tig weld that hole up. Why? What’s it for. Does it affect anything cutting cover down & leaving hole on bottom of cover unplugged and open?
@TheGingybeardMan Жыл бұрын
Ive read your comment several times and don't know what hole you're referring to. All of the holes on the cam cover have a mounting bolt go into them. The hole in the rear of the cam cover is for the oil feed line. If you watch the whole video you will see all the holes are accounted for by either an oil line or bolt.

@@TheGingybeardMan Thanks. My bike is a 1994 1200 Evo Sporty and when you cut,shave down the cover etc you end up w/a hole on the bottom that'll leak oil. I ended up tapping and plugging the hole w/a little Allen screw. Tatro Machine has a vid of him Tig welding up the hole on a bike. I have a Tig welder but cant Tig 4 shit, so just tapped and plugged the hole.

@@tonyencalade4502 i’m pretty sure the hole you are talking about was plugged on the piece that you cut off. It is a cross drill for an oil feed circuit. I have tapped and plugged them with a set screw.
