shavette to me is easier because of the blade length. Striaght razors blade length is about 3 inches and shavette's blades length is about 1 inch to me the shorter length creates better maneuverability.

I've just bought myself a shavette and have never used a single blade razor before. Thanks for the video. Every little bit of info will hopefully help me to cut myself less.

I'd have to say I'm just starting with shavette type and the ad ize is OK controllable manageable the only biggest difficulty is chin area shaving

RockaBilly It’s semantics really. A whetstone is actually trimming away metal to make a uniform edge. The strop realigns the burr that has dulled since the last shave

Does a shavette give you same close shave as a straight razor without all the up keep of a straight razor
@Primandprep19 жыл бұрын
Richard Manns In my opinion you can as long as you get a sharp enough blade for it. Having one solid blade for a straight razor is nice because of the weight it adds to it though. If your honing and stropping skills are good you can get a blade extremely sharp that will last about six months or so.

Shavette=shorter width and length which makes for better maneuverability. Straight razor= less chance of cutting yourself

Less chance of cutting oneself? how is that?

@@TigranAbgarjan Straight razors are less sharp than manufactured single blades which are used for shavettes.

@@MichaelScofield20243 thanks for the answer. that's interesting, though. Some people say that a good sharpened straight razor is sharper than a single blade...
@MichaelScofield202435 жыл бұрын
@@TigranAbgarjan won't be sharper but maybe close to a single blade. There's a good article on this link which explains why you're more likely to cut yourself with a shavette and also why it might be better to use a straight razor for a beginner rather than a shavette : bespokeunit.com/shaving/shavette-vs-straight-razor/#difference

It's counterintuitive, but I'd recommend starting with a straight before going to a shavette. Straights are more forgiving and easier to use. I find shavettes clunky and not as comfortable.

Is it OK to hone a shavette in order to keep the blade as long as possible?
@neknim8 жыл бұрын
+Louis Ta No, you wouldn't want to hone that blade. Firstly, because they are extremely thin and would be difficult to maintain a proper bevel angle but more importantly they are extremely cheap. 100 derby blades will run you about $10 (thats 2 edges per blade so thats 200 blades). That will last you a very long time if you keep the blade dry after every shave. One blade should last a minimum of 3 shaves. I can typically get a minimum of 6 just by keeping the blade dry after each shave. The blades are almost literally a dime a dozen so no need to try and maintain them.
