Just a tip for those struggling with lice, or for a quick tip for future reference. I had lice a few years back, I tried every medicine on the shelf, never worked! I found that the best thing to use is Vinegar! It stinks, and it took my breath away, but it killed all the lice (My sister gave me her lice, which stewed in her hair for weeks, or a month) within the first 2-3 washes. I leaned over the sink and had my mom pour it in my hair, and as she did I scrubbed through my hair. After that. A thick gel, hair gel whatever you have, leave it in your hair and it will suffocate remaining louse. (The hairdresser I asked said if you don't have Gel, use mayo. That stuff stinks, too though!) Thank me later!
@catherinewashere16 жыл бұрын

Oil (I would use coconut oil) suffocates lice while vinegar dissolves the “glue” that keeps the eggs attached to the hair. Also a preventative measure is to put some tea tree oil into your shampoo and conditioner because lice hate these kinds of essential oils.

Nope.

For anyone in the same situation - a hairdryer kills lice eggs, but doesn’t kill the adults. So just use a hairdryer daily for a couple of weeks - it doesn’t even have to be on wet hair. Eventually the adults will die out and there will be no new hatchlings. It’s a very simple method!

I didn't have lice, but last year I started cutting my hair into a very short pixie, and it was nearly shaved.. I am not sure why, just needed a change, the desire to "start over" and see what was really there after years of dyeing it. I relate to how you say this strips the ego.. it sure does. It has been humbling, and cleansing, and a huge letting go of a past phase of "me". It has been growing back, and new beginnings come with it. Highly symbolic.

I loved my dreadlocks with all of my heart but after they were gone, I felt a new freedom. A freedom that wasn't there before I got dreads. It's a feeling that is definitely hard to explain but it felt great and sad all at the same time. I grew my hair out for 9 years without one snip and then all at once, it was gone. I can relate to many of the feelings you displayed during this video and I will always miss my dreads but I'm better off without them. Now that my family and I are moving into a 40 foot school bus conversion to document us traveling the world I almost wish I had my dreads which to me represented freedom to do whatever I wanted when I got them.. but nah, I like dreadless me. Once I was sure I was lice free I just let my hair go back into dreads. This time the hair just settled into their own dreads naturally. Now I am really careful whom I get close to. Actually it's pretty uncommon to find that people are infected with lice via clothing items like hats and scarves as well as combs and other personal grooming tools, you're much more likely to be infected from direct contact to another humans hair. Head lice have feet adaptad to hold onto human hair specifically so they have trouble with holding onto other surfaces like hats and combs, nits (eggs) die withing a week after being separated from their human host and nymphs (live babies) die within a few hours of birth not fed. While it is a risk it's really not as big of one as people think it is.

You are both more beautiful without your hair. My mother cut my hair off twice in my life, aged 6 and 13. It was devastating, long hair is part of my identity so I understand your pain. Thankfully it grows back 😊👍🏻

I've watched a bunch of your videos and I don't know how I missed that you live in Utah. I have dreadlocks and have lived in Utah for years. Just a fun little thing to find out!! Thanks for sharing.

I actually had shoulder length hair and caught lice over the summer maybe two years ago! I did try the chemicals and the comb but I was tired of it. I was ready for a new hairstyle so I got my buzzer and shaved EVERYTHING OFF. it was an incredible experience and still to this day the thought of live makes me itch for weeks. A girl in my class (mind you it’s senior year) has lice and I thought it was just a gnat. I pulled it out and nope! It was lice! My hair has grown out to a pretty nice length and it’s finally the natural color and texture it should be. I used to bleach and dye all the time so it was a great change and I recommend to any female or male to maybe try it (lice or no lice). :)))))

Ukus!!!! Had them twice while living on Maui....its totally normal. There is a great product you just spray on and no nit picking....kills the eggs too and smells like licorice.

Ive fot my head shaving date. Ive only had my dreads for three years now but they are down to my bum. Im ONLY cutting them off cause i cant wear them down cause i cant maintain them by myself and have offered numerous people money to help me. So as soon as hat weather is here im saving my dreads. I always thoufht of myslef as that old grey haired dreadhead with the dreads down to the ground

Its a shame that you can't maintain your dreads yourself,they sound fabulous,can you not rethink and find a way to keep them,must of taken ages to get them down to your bum as you put it?

I agree with Sarah Cox, however you will know what's right for you. Email us if you wanna potentially set up a time to maintain yours. ♡

Did you think about cutting them shorter, for easier maintenance? I started my own and maintain my locks.

Oh wow, I totally understand the whole "people only know me for my dreads" [or something similar to that].. I had a short pixie cut, Mohawk, fohawk(?) and any time of short hair style you can have, dyed it all colours, and people only knew me as the "short hair girl with bright colourful hair" for seven YEARS... ive been growing it out now for 14 months and its up to my shoulders, and some parts to my collarbones. [my hair grows super super fast, double of average. ive also trimmed it but that doesnt count, that was just to keep it healthy] and i feel like a different person... like im not just the person with short coloured hair.. it feels.. nice.
