Just found this video... Awesome! I've been Catholic my whole life, and I'm a Priest, but I never really stopped to consider the details of how Christ is the fulfillment of the Hebrew Scriptures to this level of detail. It puts the whole of Christianity into a different context and makes me want to celebrate all the major Jewish Holidays! ברכת ה' ושלום

Recently, a priest has posited his theory that the disciples were gathered at the Temple not just a house, but the Temple itself, which is why the devout Jews could be present at this event. He says the Greek word oikos is used which can be translated house but also temple. To me, it does make sense that the disciples were at the Temple because they wanted to celebrate Shavuot with everybody else. But then, they could have been afraid and were still in hiding and so were in a house. What do you think?

There is an another striking convergence on this connexion bewennn shavuot and Pentecost : the teaching about the first Torah tablets and the second Hebrew tradition is explicit on this subject. What I write in this paragraph does not come from my interpretation but from Jewish sources. The second tables (and the legalistic Torah that Moses subsequently wrote) correspond to the level of hardness that Israel became mired in after worshiping the lump of gold. After 400 years of cleansing slavery in Egypt, and a period of purification in the desert, the Hebrews were sufficiently sanctified to receive the completed Torah corresponding to the first tablets. Rabbis teach that the first Torah was purely "spiritual", not carnal. It did not detail a legal settlement or provide for animal sacrifices. The Talmud teaches, for example, that anyone who were exposed to this Torah once would never need to study Torah again. And no one would need to teach anyone the Torah. Because this one would be forever engraved in his heart. The first tables generate the most intimate relationship with God. Also the rabbis say that if the sons of Israel had not worshiped the golden calf and had been able to welcome these first tables, the deliverance of all humanity should have happened at that moment, as well as THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH . But the adoration of the golden calf, adoration of the material, if I may say so, generated a Torah which relates to the interior level of the children of Israel, a carnal Torah, made up of law, prescriptions, etc. These two Torahs are one Torah. But the first is the accomplished Torah, and the second, the veiled Torah, which contains the seed of its fulfillment. The full unveiling of the Torah must come with the messianic times and deliverance. Now for Christians, this happened with Jesus Christ, who is the fulfilled Torah. You will undoubtedly have understood this by reading my description of the first tables. The descent of these corresponds to the advent of Christ and the descent of the Holy Spirit. In other words, Christian Pentecost corresponds to the descent of the first tables, and to the reception by humanity of this event which had been missed because of the golden calf. It's not for nothing that Pentecost and Shavuot are the same date. Because it is in fact the same event, but Christian Pentecost is the accomplished unveiling of the same Torah. This is also a typical motif in the Bible, namely that what is first in God comes second in time (example: For Paul, the second Adam (life-giving pneuma) corresponds to the primordial Adam of Genesis 1, while the first Adam (vivified psyche) is the Adam of Genesis 2 (the carnal, the one who falls). What should have taken place at Sinai was delayed until Pentecost, after a long maturation under the yoke of a Torah which held them under "the slavery of the law", as Paul would say. Slavery which both reflects their inner state (they were not in their hearts out of Egypt since they worshiped the calf) and which at the same time was an educational preparation to receive the accomplished Torah identifying with the gift of The spirit of Christ, as Saint Paul also teaches.

Good comparison, but you started out in Acts! I think you can pre date that account by a few weeks through Johns gospel, chpt 12: “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. 30 Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine. 31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up[g] from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die. And preceding this account to go back to luke 3 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Hello I’m a recent subscriber to your channel im a believer and grew up Protestant all of my life first evangelical then dabbled into the messianic movement because I wanted to draw closer to the early roots of the faith realizing the first believers were Jews and since I have some Jewish blood in me (fathers side) though wasn’t raised in Judaism recently I’ve identified more as non denominational and recently I’ve been studying Luther and I came to the conclusion he wasn’t some Godly hero of the faith he said many things I cringe about like saying it’s ok to commit murder and fornicate 1000 times a day that we would never separate ourselves from the lamb also how he hated the book of James and wanted it burned because it contradicts being justified by faith alone .. Paul and James can’t contradict each other so I understand that true faith produces good works. James 2:24 contradicts Luther and even he knew it also weird quotes I found about him being attacked by demons and wanted to put the Devil in his Anus? I really just want to practice closer to first century Christianity if the Catholic Church is true Id happily accept it I just can’t wrap my head around praying to Mary though I know she’s a great woman of faith or venerating icons that’s what’s my stumbling block. Many Protestant Christians credit Constantine for Catholicism because there was some evidence he still worshipped the sun God and wanted to mix paganism with Christianity another thing that bothers me is Easter and Christmas since it has pagan origins in the catholic tradition the Jewish day of Pentecost is still honored with a new Christian spin the same used to be said with Passover look up Polycrates how he went to Rome to dispute the change from Christian Passover to Easter why was the Change made ? That’s why the word for Easter in other languages is Passover because it was replaced. In Spanish it’s la pascua . I used to believe Catholics are a false church an apostate church but I no longer come to that conclusion I may not agree with all of its doctrines but that doesn’t mean it’s all wrong how were ppl saved prior to the reformation? That’s what got me thinking .. but I still have questions and wish I had the answers I also long to see unity in the body and 30,000 denominations isn’t from God Christianity is the only religion as such what’s your view on Quartodecimanism and polycrates saying John taught him to observe the Passover according to the Gospel? You find similar things about the sabbath being kept in the east while Christians in the west kept the Lords day on a Sunday I was sabbath observant for about 6 months before I relented but it’s still something I go back and forth on polycrates bishop of Ephesus early church father while going up to Rome to dispute the change said "All these observed the fourteenth day of the passover according to the Gospel, deviating in no respect, but following the rule of faith. And I also, Polycrates, the least of you all, do according to the tradition of my relatives, some of whom I have closely followed. For seven of my relatives were bishops; and I am the eighth. And my relatives always observed the day when the people put away the leaven. I, therefore, brethren, who have lived sixty-five years in the Lord, and have met with the brethren throughout the world, and have gone through every Holy Scripture, am not affrighted by terrifying words. For those greater than I have said 'We ought to obey God rather than man.... “For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries on the sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this. The Egyptians in the neighborhood of Alexandria, and the inhabitants of Thebais, hold their religious assemblies on the sabbath, but do not participate of the mysteries in the manner usual among Christians in general (Socrates Scholasticus. Ecclesiastical History, Book V, Chapter XXII. Excerpted from Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Second Series, Volume 2. Edited by Philip Schaff and Henry Wace.

Rabbi Yakov (Teacher of Judah haNasi/the writer of the Mishna) ) taught that the Sabbath is only a day of preparation for the banquet which will be laid out in the Olam Haba when Messiah comes. Jesus is Messiah and he has already arrived, lived, died and resurrected. As Catholics, we right now living in the Messianic Olam Haba. God has put before us His feast, the Eucharistic sacrifice of thanksgiving. In the OT the day of preparation for the Sabbath from Sundown Thursday to Sundown Friday at which point the Sabbath began. But Rabbi Jacob explains that the Sabbath is the day of preparation for the Olam Haba. The seventh day = sabbath. So the eighth day is day they are preparing for. This is why in the NT the first day is also known as the eighth day as it follows the Sabbath. As you see, in the Olam Haba the day of worship is going to be the Eighth day/First day/Sunday when the Eucharistic banquet is set by God. To worship on Saturday instead of Sunday is to deny that we are living in the Messianic Age. It is a denial that Christ is the Messiah. He fulfils the last Sabbath by not disturbing it, rising on Sunday, fulfilling the Sabbath. If one is Jewish ie Hebrew Catholic it is fine to take part in Sabbath activities but the Sabbath must not replace the day of worship which is Sunday. How is this to be understood? The seventh day (Sabbath) is the day of preparation for the day that is to come in the Olam Haba (Sunday). God Himself will lay out the banquet. It is the Eucharist, the sacrifice of thanksgiving which the sages prophesied. The Pharisees were upset when Jesus did “works” of healing on the Sabbath, they were outraged that Jesus was healing on a Sabbath. Jesus healed on a Sabbath because He is the Lord of the Sabbath, the Sabbath has no power over Christ or His Church. How is this to be understood? Previously Thursday was preparation for Sabbath and Sabbath itself was preparation of the perpetual banquet meal of the Olam Haba when Messiah arrives. The seventh day is the day of preparation for the day that is to come in the Olam Haba. God Himself will lay out the banquet. It is the Eucharist, the sacrifice of thanksgiving which the sages prophesied. It is the Jewish apostles who began worshiping on the Eighth Day/Sunday (according to Jewish calendar)... the day following the Sabbath, because the Sabbath is now fulfilled.

@@SaintCharbelMiracleworker a few things if for example Mary is as important in the story of redemption as catholics claim or is the ark of the new covenant and I’m wrong on the topic then devotion to her shouldn’t be optional it would be the Christians duty especially if the early church believed it if I’m lacking information I’m open minded I just don’t see her exaltation until later the 300s and on I agree Protestants shouldn’t completely ignore her either she’s a great woman of faith but my question is are we to pray to her or prostrate before statues dedicated to her. I just feel uneasy praying to anyone but God and in terms of the sabbath I can argue for observance and non observance that’s why it’s a confusing topic to me but I do know many Christians in Asia Minor even gentiles kept it the west had a tradition of the first day of the week to honor the resurrection which is fine but when we say it’s the new sabbath or the sabbath has been transferred to another day I find that wrong I’m not anti Sunday I go to a Sunday church atm but I recognize it’s not the sabbath in just about every language the word for Saturday sounds like sabbath I find that intriguing for example sábado in Spanish sabbaton in greek at the moment I’m not observant because of a few reasons one I just came to the conclusion it didn’t apply to all peoples for all times like how is someone in Alaska how the sunsets are there going to observe it? Then also jobs where I needed to work on Friday nights However Isaiah 66:23 has me thinking why does it say all mankind will have observe it ? Constantine was the one to officially say all Christians Must keep the venerable day of the sun as a sort of new sabbath or punishments would occur so that originally got me in favor of keeping it and I know there are examples of the first day of the week being venerated prior but that memo didn’t get to Asia Minor for whatever reason or the quartodeciman keepers I’m pretty sure were sabbath observant as well what’s your thoughts on the controversy? Like I said I’m open minded and I admit I was wrong about justification until my studies and also torn between the Eucharist / communion I wonder why Protestants don’t call it the Eucharist it is true however that Constantine hated Jews and said he didn’t want anything in common with them so he didn’t want to depend on the Jewish calendar to celebrate the passion or resurrection but isn’t true originally the day we use for easter was celebrated by pagans as well as Christmas ? Why did Constantine choose that day to celebrate the resurrection? Paul calls Christ the first fruits and first fruits is always the first Sunday after Passover he could of chose to celebrate the resurrection then to be more precise I do think based off of 1 Cor 7:18 Paul seems to suggest Jews who are called should stay Jews keep their customs and lifestyle while gentiles that are called should remain gentiles and not become Jews but that doesn’t mean the early church didn’t embrace its roots in a non legalistic way neither is it a sin to want to observe the sabbath if keep the dietary laws out of personal preference as long as you’re not judging those who choose not to ?

How is Shavuot related to the Pentecost? In one hand, Shavuot is Jewish harvest celebration day like Halloween in today's America. The last day of counting harvest using omer. Omer is a unit of volume in Jewish tradition. The Jews already had this holiday before God revealed the Torah book to the Jewish people in the thunderous eruption of the mount Sinai. God is not violent I believe. For me, it is hard to associate God with this scary, violent, and furious event in the mount Sinai. Simply put, I believe that the event in the mount Sinai is a violent eruption of a volcano. On the other hand, Pentecost is the day when Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus apostles which took place in the fiftieth day after Easter. Jewish tradition had already existed before the birth of Jesus Christ. Therefore Shavuot is not related to Pentecost in whatsoever case.

Catholics , and other Christians, are not obliged to keep the Sabbath . We are still bound to the moral law of the ten commandments, which is the law of love. The early church worshipped on the Lords Day through the Eucharistic feast. The Sabbath was a day of rest from labor Leviticus 23:33 it wasn't a day of worship. By resting on the Jewish Sabbath you were trusting God would provide for your family even though you didn't work - Exodus 16:19-36

The commandment is not simply to not make images… if it was intrinsically evil then He wouldn’t have commanded it. It’s simple logic. The commandment is not to make such things to worship and serve them. In other words, to create false gods. That is why even though He commanded the building of the bronze serpent on the pole, it later had to be destroyed because people started worshiping it.
