When I had a heart attack leading to a triple heart bypass, I was allowed 6 months full pay from work whilst recovering. After 6 months, it was half pay. Luckily, I was a month away from retirement, so I was allowed to take that. Had I not been near retirement, my half pay would have ceased after another 6 months.

Does the EPL have a system for medical retirements? The National Rugby League (NRL) in Australia has a system where a player can be medically retired and paid out a portion of his remaining contract, freeing up space for replacements. But we do operate under a salary cap out here to be fair.
