Shaw's Bridge, Belfast

Shaw's Bridge Belfast lies on the River Lagan. It was originally built as an oak bridge in 1655 and named after Captain John Shaw of Oliver Cromwell's army. The oak bridge was replaced with a stone bridge in 1691, and that first stone bridge was subsequently replaced with the existing bridge in 1709 due to flood damage. That is, the existing stone pedestrian bridge is 315 years old! In 1977, a concrete arch, vehicle bridge was built as part of the A55 road beside the 315 year old stone pedestrian bridge .
