Shawn Colvin - Live on The Acoustic Cafe '88 (Full Show)

This was 1988. I did a little stint on Acoustic Cafe out of Boston with Brad Paul hosting. I had only just finished the songs that would make up Steady On, didn’t have a record deal yet, and was fresh off the road having sung back-up for Suzanne Vega in the UK and Europe (the extent of my foreign travel had been Canada up till then). Such an exciting time! I remember it like it was yesterday.

I simply adore her. Her voice, musicality and songwriting are simply perfect. I saw her a few years ago in Mobile AL. She was sick with the flu but did not want to cancel and disappoint her fans. You don't see dedication like that very often. It is why us fans love her so much.

I toured Germany in 1994 and Shawn's CD Steady On was on constant rotation on those long bus rides. Love hearing this from '88! Such a sparkly voice.

Diamond in the Rough is a masterpiece. Saw Shawn open for Richard Thompson in 1991 on his Rumour and Sigh tour. What a night. Saw her with Lyle Lovett a few years ago. She sings like an angel. Reminds me of Nancy Griffith.

This was so cool to find about 4-5 years ago I think. Just awesome to see live pre- Steady On versions of songs that hooked me from that first listen on the radio that I still hold as treasures to this day. That diamond wasn't as rough as you claimed in the musical sense at least. The unique guitar style, the expressive voice and perfectly worded poetry. Thank you for all you've endured and the hard work it took you to share your gift for all these years. I can't imagine all these years without your music and thankfully don't have to.
