Years later Shawn admitted she had an eating disorder leading up to the olympics and only ate 700 calories a day. So it's kinda sad ellen said "shame on you", even though I know it was a joke and she wasn't aware.

This is the Shawn I remember and love! I was just a few years younger than her and this was when I really started getting into gymnastics. I feel like an entire generation has really missed out on her. I’m glad she’s back and has a new audience on KZbin.

To all these people upset that Shawn did more than a flip, Ellen probably just didn't know what to call it/couldn't remember what it was called, but knew it was a flip. Any elite gymnast could do a regular flip. This was publicity for her. She wasn't going to do just a normal flip. lol

Shawn johnson was my IDOL when i was 10-13 i would always watch her perform and get all the info i could from her. Bc i'm from iowa too i have ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted to meet her in real life. i was a gymnast from age 6-13 i quit and now i can't do craP! i still really wanna meet her super bad! when i would go to des moines i would always look around to see if she was in the mall or something.. always.. no luck. I'm 14 now. thanks shawn! you were always in inspiration in my life of gymnastics!

Why? Sure she’s a gymnast, but she isn’t on the same level of elite gymnasts who are on track for the Olympic in 2020 and she would be 19 at the next Olympic Games in 2024. She doesn’t even compete on the world level of elite gymnasts. Whitney is 14 already and Shawn is 14 in this video and she had just won the gold at the World gymnastics meet. Go compare Whitney ‘s competition routines to those of Shawn’s at the age age in 2007. What Shawn did on the bars on the Ellen show was very watered down basic moves because they didn’t have all of the safety equipment or spotters. Shawn couldn’t risk injuries in the year leading up to the Olympic Games.
