Shawn Lane always uplifts my soul. I named my company Nankarrow after him.

Shawn is so incredible! He took this Weather report song and gave it the texture of his guitar/amp/overdrive sound, and highlighted the best riffs in the way that he does! Just the fact that other amazing guitarists get brought up anytime you see Shawn's music is an UNDERSCORE for his creations! Thanks Lane family for sharing these videos - getting to look back and watch him play is a treat for any musician (and non musicians too). If you haven't, go look up Jaco Pastorius who was the bassist on the Weather report album this song came from. It's always a treat to hear Shawn take another musician's melodies and make it his own and this one is right up there on my playist of favorites.

I remember seeing Shawn Lane at the NAMM show prior to this when Paul Gilbert introduced him on stage. Vai, Satch , Skolnick, and Reb Beach were also on stage taking it in turns to solo. Shawn Lane was something else. Awesome. I then got to see this gig at MI. Half the audience left midway through the gig, I think it was a bit too much for some of the purists. I loved every second of it. He was a genius and so in tune with his music.

No one has ever matched Shawn. Paul Gilbert gets within a few hundred meters maybe, but Shawn is still in another level. The run at 7:10 is absolutely unbelievable. Like, impossible to comprehend someone being able to physically do that, it's just... unreal.

allan hated his own playing, but i don't play the 'favorites' or 'best' game. that's ego nonsense. the guitarist from new order can strum a vanilla e major with a ton of distortion and make it just as terrifying as an allan solo. but this requires going outside of a narrow box one may have assigned oneself, in this case, my past self. i met both shawn and allan and both were super nice, down to earth, shawn let me into his show for free, and he was impressed by my playing (which is very allanish). i met allan four times, the third time he spent about fifteen minutes telling me about the situation with his divorce and losing his studio to his wife. i first met him when i was seventeen, and glad i did. after seeing how humble he was, i stopped worshiping him, and myself, and any other artist. that's the biggest impact he had on my life.

@@jimmythebold589bro no one is worshipping anyone here. If you think so maybe you were just projecting. Take a break. Shawn is the greatest guitarist to ever live. It's not worshiping, it's stating a fact. Like i listen to shawn once in a blue moon. But i respect that no one can touch him in skill. Simple. There are plenty of great players out there to enjoy bro. Who cares? Like i can break it down on a fundamental level for you if you want for why he's the best, it's not a question of taste or style. That's up to the listener. I'm talking technically and who had the most mastery of the instrument, including savant level knowledge of music. It was Shawn by a long shot.

Beautiful as always, Shawn! Though I feel compelled after reading some comments as well as countless others that I see on the many guitar videos I watch: MUSIC IS NOT A COMPETITION. Here is a quote from the great Guthrie Govan- "It’s an unhealthy thing to rate musicians. If you want to see this exemplified, go to the KZbin comments section where there’s a whole legion of guitar players who want to turn it into top trumps and give every player a rating out of 10 for various aspects of their fearsome technique."

Though I don't disagree with you Zach, you have to also acknowledge that guitar and music are skills which most players are trying to progress and get 'better' with. Just like we look at different sports e.g gymnastics, and we want to appreciate the most skilled and technically advanced athletes/players. Guitar is no different, and Shawn is the most well-rounded and technically advanced player we've ever seen. It's absolutely not a competition, but there's also no question who the most advanced guys are. Maybe we just need to clarify that this does not make one 'the best', as there is no such thing. Shawn is certainly my favourite though!
@EvilestGem2 жыл бұрын
There are levels to everything from which appreciation arises. I'm my mind Shawn has something that no other guitar player possesses and in that respect, in my opinion, he's untouchable. I'm not ignorant he's just simply better than the rest.

@@zaccyo I think I've figured out a wording to express that doesn't offend as much lol. I now say I think Shawn was the "most capable" musician in history. I still think he's the best but I love a lot of guitar music and there are many exceptional players but really, nobody could do what Shawn can do. Not only could he improvise, compose, produce and perform, he had that touch that can't really be imitated by even the best of the best. So, I now just say i think Shawn is the most capable a human has ever been at achieving expression of whatever it was he desired to express at any given moment.

They were illegal, there was never a contract for EyeReckon to stream and digitize the records. They did that in 2006 three years after Shawn's death without ever getting permission to. Eyereckon was a joint 50/50 partnership for CD's only. The good news is that we are reloading everything from Shawn's daughter's and mother's account and everything will back legally for 2020.
