Shawn has admitted in interviews that he was anxious to put that line in "like this" because he wasn't sure if people would get it but he did let slip that "she is drop dead gorgeous" but he didn't want a superficial love and he fell in love with her personality 🥺 and many suspect that this song was Shawn accepting that he did in fact have true feelings for Camila not just an infatuation with her. Also Fun Fact: He was hesitant to sing the line live due to the sort of backlash he got so he changed the lyrics to "yeah she is drop dead gorgeous and she kills me anyway" There's a video of it somewhere on KZbin

This album brings back so many memories of my teenage years 😭 Also when he had to take a break and cancel the concert in Brazil, Argentina was the next stop on the tour and I remember being so nervous and stressed that week because we didn't know if he would be able to perform for us. But finally he did and he was amazing, I was the one that got out of that arena without a voice. He's an amazing entertainer and performer live, hope you get the chance to experience a concert when all of this is over 😊

"Bad reputation" talks also about internet harassment..a hacking scandal in which nude photographs of girls and other celebrities were made public on the internet. The song "Treat you better" is also about domestic violence. Michael B. if you see the video of this song, you'll understand better what messages Shawn Mendes wants to deliver like metaphores.

Okay I just have to say it that the fact that Song For No One was written right after this album is kinda a whole other heartbreak and now Shawn confessing that Ruin was him being dramatic about wanting Camila after he heard a rumor she was interested in some other guy 💔 This poor man was going through it but I'm so happy that it turned out to be a happy ending for him because he deserves it ❤️ Really enjoyed your reaction as always Michael and I can't wait to watch your Romance one ☺️❤️

I think you are going to really enjoy "Bad Reputation" live. The live version is so much better, in my opinion. I love how you get the exact message of this song, one of my favourites. About the line "She's not even drop dead gorgeous. But she kills me anyway", he once explained he was worried because he didn´t know if peope were going to understand it. He was just trying to say that her beauty was not the reason he fell in love with her, because she was actually drop dead gorgeous, but he fell in love with her pesonality, so he wanted to say that in same kind of way, playing with the words. And I love how you talk about the concepts of each shawn´s album. For me, in his first album (Handwritting), he is still learning how to write and diciding about what he wants to write, you can feel he uses a lot more of his imagination. But in this second album you already can see the central themes on his music: his love for Camila, his self-discovery and his fears: like feeling alone, being overwhelming for the the type of life he is choosing (since I see you are interested, this theme is already present in his first album with "A little too much", even if he used "she", he is taking about himself), losing the contact with friends and family because his musical career... All of them are recurring themes in his music, just that each album represent a diferent moment in his life. For me, "Illuminate" represents his doubts about the kind of life he is choosing and the sacrifices that he has to make. That´s why he remembers the break up with his first girlfriend because of the distance (Honest, Three empty words), believing in the "No promises", and the process of understand himself and his new reality (Understand, Hold on). At the same time it´s the beginning of his love for this girl he can´t have, he doesn´t even know for sure if she feels the same, but even if he tries not to, he can´t help falling in love (Like this. Patience, Roses, Ruin, Mercy, Treat you better.... ) In his third album he is still singing about this love he can´t have, but he opens up more about that, he tries to forget her, but he can´t, so he just accept it and in a way... confess, ending the album waiting for her. And he is still talking about self-discovery and his fears (In my blood), and introduce new themes, like his interest in social causes and young people (Youth). I still feel "Monster" from Wonder, is a continuation of this new interest. I hope he writes more songs in the future about his interest in social themes, because I love these songs and I think he comes from a very honest place when he writes about them. And in Wonder he is finally with the girl he loves, but there is still space for his others recurring themes, like the fear of not being there for his friends (Call my frinds), being alone (Can´t imagine), or his self-discovery (Wonder). I think you can easily see the progression in each of his recurring themes, and his growing up as a person. In Wonder the sacrifices he is willing to do in his life are different from the ones he did in "illuminate".

The concert is the one at Rogers Center in Toronto,his hometown...he can see the arena from his balcony, you saw that in the documentary. After you see this you will understand why he did hit that point so he needed to rest. This man puts sooo sooo much energy in everything he does, enspecialy performing. I adore him so much as an artist and even more as a person. Happy to see that you do too. Fun fact: Shawn said that he has a very dramatic writer within himself. He wrote Ruin after he heard a rumor that Camila might like some guy...he didn t know if it was true. He also said that it took him almost 2 years to accept that he is in love with her and when he did she was with someone else. They were really close friends and very suportive with one another and in 2019 after months of being insistent and asking "do you like me" she replied "yes, fine, i like you". He screenshoted that and still has it😂 after that they started dating in july and thank God she finally admitted because that s how we got Wonder which i think it s his best album, as you said "it s the most shawn". You should do Handwritten too,it s the first one, he was 15 or 16, cant believe it s been that long and now he s 22🥺

Finally got a chance to watch this and I’ve got goosebumps just watching the way you speak. You’re so eloquent and I feel like we can see your heart when you speak about what you’re reacting to. The Rose is extremely important to him and Camila. He calls her his Spanish Rose. The stage design in his last concert had a standing large Rose with his piano sitting underneath. Camila sings living proof live on the amas or Vma’s can’t remember which one it was but she also shows her Spanish Rose in the performance. The Spanish Rose is their thing
